audiobook sounds cool. I know Charlie Hunnam has been trying to develop a tv show based on the book for a while now. last I heard he filmed 2/10 episodes with Apple TV+ but then production got indefinitely suspended
amazing book tho, I might reread it next year. lmk what y'all think when you finish and if you have any similar recommendations

Read Crime and Punishment 2 months ago and thought it was time to start with Notes from the Underground now, but I just cannot get through more than 5 pages. Anyone here read Notes from the underground?

I’ve been wanting to read Notes From The Underground—I loved The Idiot and House of the Dead from Dostoyevsky.
What about the text is holding you back?
Have any yall infinite jest heard its insane got 100 pages in before getting super bored and the footnote s*** was super annoying. Is it worth it to see it through the end

Judging by its critical reception, and from recommendations, I’d imagine it’s worth it. I personally don’t have 1000+ page attention span, but DFW’s short stories can be really fulfilling (and obviously a lot more digestible) instead

yes! this is exactly the kind of content I'm looking for rn
added to my list, will try and get it early 2021

Indeed. I’m tryna start reading more political texts—I’m ridiculously ignorant in that realm
Maybe we’ll be reading it at the same time

Really liked DFW short stories and his tennis articles so been meaning to check out Infinite jest but man its just so f***ing bizarre so far i don't what the f*** is happening
does anybody annotate their books while reading them?
kinda wanna start doing it, but at the same time i mostly be so wrapped in the story that i cant see myself stopping to start writing little notes about it
im thinking i might just start writing my thoughts in the space at the end of every chapter

I’m with you on that—I’m confident I’m not smart enough to enjoy that book for that long

For leisure reading, no, but in college I loved to—really helped to make meaning of daunting or dense moments.
For some books I’ll underline/circle great quotes or dog ear pages to revisit... but I wouldn’t make notes just for casual reading
Is the point of that to help you reflect/retain ?

I looked up some diagrams and that helped a lot then im' like I don't spend enough time outside of reading the book to enjoy it fully and dropped it 300 pages in. Switched to Dune right and its breezing by

For my non-fiction its about remembering important stuff
And for fiction its just quotes i like
Bout to start Dune got a nice hardcover edition with green side color. So aesthetic

I wanna read Dune before the new film but the size of it is so intimidating
Good luck with it
