the plan is to go on the road next month and december, play this tape around the country
promote the f*** out of it, get more fans and money
come home and really push cyberkiss for most of 2023, i can explain more later but the cyberkiss Rollout is just getting started, we’re really doing groundwork for this one
thank you so much man, i always love reading what you have to say.
i agree on nuyork being the centerpiece, its easily the favorite, for reference outside of singles the intro is the auto most played song on a tape but nuyork is already outstreaming the intro just due to people liking it, no major playlisting. gonna really push the song tbh bc i can tell its the favorite
completely nailed the joy inspiration, and i’m really glad and surprised people like that one so much. boycott i cant even tell what we were inspired by tbh, i know i was referencing radiohead a lot throughout this tape but even then it ended up turning into something else
so glad u pointed out the emotion too, an issue i touched on during joy was that a lot of our older music was getting boiled down to fun nostalgia silly s*** when we were dealing in depression, racial s***, identity, and a lot of heartbreak and that all kinda was getting ignored except maybe the heartbreak, but this time people seem to get it more.
also totally agree with u on it being one people are gonna look at in the future for us, i think this is our 2nd essential project in terms of bsk with SURF being the first. u completely got the idea of us doing this to get a lot of ideas out then making something more concise after.
thanks for ur words fr i really enjoyed reading this, if i could ask one more thing, what artist do u hear influence from when u listen just from ur perspective
if i had to say one artist i hear the most influence from I think I'd say Pharrell
about to bump brodie @Mitchell

I f***ed with most of the project bro, nice work
production and melodies are great, work on some of your punchlines/quotables and yall will do great
later I'll revisit and tell you which songs are my favorite, off top I really liked the intro, Joy, NuyorkV2, Do The Right Thing and Keep Me Around
@Mitchell some more thoughts after i'd have time to really digest more
my favs are Nu York V2 followed by Joy, Do the Right Thing, Peace and Love. I love everything on Nu York V2. all the verses, the hook, and catchiest melodies on the album. a lot of the other songs on the album reminded me of something else instantly but this one didn't (in a good way). has a really distinct quality i can't place that separates it from the rest of the album too but it really feels like a centerpiece to me. I like how its kinda noisy especially with more stuff happening as it progresses but it doesn't overwhelm it or define the mood
I think Joy has amazing emotional express, with the lyrics ofc but also the piano and the scratches which remind me of 13th Floor/Growing Old (one of my fav outkast songs). a few of my favorite BSK verses in general and the hook is also really great
Do the Right Thing - I love how it shows all 3 members in a more 90s hip hop way like Tribe, De La Soul, Brand Nubian, but its distinct because of the 3 unique personalities of BSK. another strong hook here and I like how all 3 members provide some great hooks throughout the album
Boycott - for some reason this was another one that didn't remind me specifically of anything besides BSK. it's easy to just say it's a rock track but I think it still combines the different influences and sounds making it unique, just in the most overtly rock-driven way. i like how it still feels dense like the other tracks but it gets there in a different way which also benefits from it being in the middle of the album imo
Peace and Love - not a lot to say about this one but I love the dancier approach and how the sample kinda reminds me of Daft Punk. I think the tone works well as a closer
I didn't dislike any tracks but my least favs were probably S***Appeal and Digital World, I think they were still very well done and are a vital piece of the album and wouldn't remove them, I was just replaying some of the other tracks more because of their different directions. I noticed more of my favorite tracks had either prominent piano or just similar keyboards in general, I think you guys use that really well as a piece of the overall picture that complements the songwriting. really good drums/percussion too that I didn't notice as much at first. said it before but just a very detailed and dense style in general that makes repeated listens a lot better
I think this album is a big step forward for BSK, but in a way I feel like it's really opening the door for the next album(s) to continue that even more. It's a creative explosion of a band with a lot of ideas going off into different directions but it's still held together really well and doesn't feel too sprawling. In the future I can definitely see the group honing down into specific directions more as you guys get older, for like half these tracks I can envision almost an entire project that takes a specific sound further and refines it more. I think this one really has a kaleidoscope feeling of the different influences, 3 personalities and just the lively youthful spirit in general. Even if this one is surpassed by the next projects I think BSK fans will look back on it as an important breakthrough moment in maturity and showing what was to come next. The previous projects all feel like they take a step up from each other but this one felt like as much growth as all of them combined in a way. I can definitely see BSK having one of those discographies where y'all flesh out a specific world for each project, leaving each one with a totally different feeling. I also kept thinking that this album is more emotionally complex than a first impression might be. it's easy to get the idea that it's mostly positive lighthearted music (especially compared to some of the moodier stuff popular recently) but I think saying that would be oversimplifying it and underselling it greatly, there is a wide variety of emotions here from each of the members and I think it connects more here than on all the previous projects.
Overall a very enjoyable project that makes me excited for the future. I was also glad I revisited the rest of the catalog in the past few weeks as well, made me appreciate Cyberkiss more and the new things it brought to the table as well as the way it improved further on your strengths.
real ass top 5
real bottom 2 too
digital world beat is special tho
