Glad you like that one! Feels like the least mentioned on the tape as far as what people like but i like it bc it felt like such a surf era moment kinda full circle for us
"hey you heard the new Blackstarkids?"
"yeahhhhh... I prefer Surf"
cracks me up every time

Me fr
Cyberkiss better
yes!! ur the first person i peeped point that out but thats def what i was going for with the transitions
being caught in a loop of like being online complaining about how bad online is, like that paradox and s***. theres like this back and forth between internet and real life going on within it
Def! I love it n just heard the one of the talk show sounding one where everyone is bugging up his depression but booing him when hes trying to be inspirational or trying to get over it.
Really dope & i like it a lot. Remind me a little bit of Frank's facebook interlude on Endless, but more fleshed out n not a one off.
Really like the going back in forth of falling into the trap but also trying to rebel & counter it. Love when skits n interlude are used to tell the story deeper.
Yooo she killed Digital World
Also Express Yourself is extremely sweet n shows that some things digital can help n be a positive outlet even with all the bad
The song after is a f***ing jam too
i swear that was mfs every time we dropped bro
just now maybe we beat the peaked ar surf allegations
im afraid to say boycott might be my favorite song becuz of this skit
Just finished it, great album @op !
Love the message n dichotomy of the trappings of cyber life, the message of skin color & the overcoming of depression. The theming of internet rabbit holes, identity, delf confidence, depression & individuality.
Fav songs no order:
Joy
NuYork V2
Do the Right Thing
Digital World
Peach Cobbler
Peace + Love
My least favs are the more pop rock/punk songs but theyre not bad, just a personal thing cuz im personally not a fan of that type of sound in general but im sure a lot of others love it.
But overall yeah dope project! All three of yall killed it, love the production too n especially the percussion the drums are hella hard. Also love the deeper meanings of the album that is all stringed through the cyberworld. A lot of the songs really do feel "cyber-y/techno-y" without going to the cliche overdone synth 80s sound. The feeling reminds me of old cartoons or shows like on Disney Channel or Cartoon Network like i can picture it that way, like Osmosis Jones, Kim Possible, Teen Titans etc. Cartoons n kids live shows that have a tech edge to them.
Also the most personal & introspective/concious songs n themes were done well with care too. They dont come off corny or preachy, while still standing up on their own without further context. They can still mostly exist as "just music".
Awesome. Sorry it took so long for me to finally listen on full even past the times i told u, was helping a client with a music project myself doing some co-prod n mixing. Glad i finally took the tome to listen while not having anything going on tho, feel like o would have missed the nuances & themes n how the skits connect if i was listening while busy.
THANK GOD IM PRETTY AS F***

YEAAA frank in general from blonde and endless to the blonded gta station was a HUGE inspiration on the transitions for this tape

The boycott skit is easily my fav transition we’ve ever done
Its so sick yall bring it up because nobody has mentioned it to me before this and I think its sick as f***

Thanks for the compliment on the drums too on a lot of the songs we were able to have our drummer play them this time and i feel like that added a lot to the mix! So stoked that you liked it man fr, thanks for really digging into what the tape is about outside of just how it sounds

Lmaooooooooo I was listening to Mavi like 5 mins before. That’s not even the outro to the album. Replace Peace + Love with baking soda and keep everything else

Thank you bro, I appreciate it. Hope you enjoyed the tape man
@Mitchell some more thoughts after i'd have time to really digest more
my favs are Nu York V2 followed by Joy, Do the Right Thing, Peace and Love. I love everything on Nu York V2. all the verses, the hook, and catchiest melodies on the album. a lot of the other songs on the album reminded me of something else instantly but this one didn't (in a good way). has a really distinct quality i can't place that separates it from the rest of the album too but it really feels like a centerpiece to me. I like how its kinda noisy especially with more stuff happening as it progresses but it doesn't overwhelm it or define the mood
I think Joy has amazing emotional express, with the lyrics ofc but also the piano and the scratches which remind me of 13th Floor/Growing Old (one of my fav outkast songs). a few of my favorite BSK verses in general and the hook is also really great
Do the Right Thing - I love how it shows all 3 members in a more 90s hip hop way like Tribe, De La Soul, Brand Nubian, but its distinct because of the 3 unique personalities of BSK. another strong hook here and I like how all 3 members provide some great hooks throughout the album
Boycott - for some reason this was another one that didn't remind me specifically of anything besides BSK. it's easy to just say it's a rock track but I think it still combines the different influences and sounds making it unique, just in the most overtly rock-driven way. i like how it still feels dense like the other tracks but it gets there in a different way which also benefits from it being in the middle of the album imo
Peace and Love - not a lot to say about this one but I love the dancier approach and how the sample kinda reminds me of Daft Punk. I think the tone works well as a closer
I didn't dislike any tracks but my least favs were probably S***Appeal and Digital World, I think they were still very well done and are a vital piece of the album and wouldn't remove them, I was just replaying some of the other tracks more because of their different directions. I noticed more of my favorite tracks had either prominent piano or just similar keyboards in general, I think you guys use that really well as a piece of the overall picture that complements the songwriting. really good drums/percussion too that I didn't notice as much at first. said it before but just a very detailed and dense style in general that makes repeated listens a lot better
I think this album is a big step forward for BSK, but in a way I feel like it's really opening the door for the next album(s) to continue that even more. It's a creative explosion of a band with a lot of ideas going off into different directions but it's still held together really well and doesn't feel too sprawling. In the future I can definitely see the group honing down into specific directions more as you guys get older, for like half these tracks I can envision almost an entire project that takes a specific sound further and refines it more. I think this one really has a kaleidoscope feeling of the different influences, 3 personalities and just the lively youthful spirit in general. Even if this one is surpassed by the next projects I think BSK fans will look back on it as an important breakthrough moment in maturity and showing what was to come next. The previous projects all feel like they take a step up from each other but this one felt like as much growth as all of them combined in a way. I can definitely see BSK having one of those discographies where y'all flesh out a specific world for each project, leaving each one with a totally different feeling. I also kept thinking that this album is more emotionally complex than a first impression might be. it's easy to get the idea that it's mostly positive lighthearted music (especially compared to some of the moodier stuff popular recently) but I think saying that would be oversimplifying it and underselling it greatly, there is a wide variety of emotions here from each of the members and I think it connects more here than on all the previous projects.
Overall a very enjoyable project that makes me excited for the future. I was also glad I revisited the rest of the catalog in the past few weeks as well, made me appreciate Cyberkiss more and the new things it brought to the table as well as the way it improved further on your strengths.

thank you so much man, i always love reading what you have to say.
i agree on nuyork being the centerpiece, its easily the favorite, for reference outside of singles the intro is the auto most played song on a tape but nuyork is already outstreaming the intro just due to people liking it, no major playlisting. gonna really push the song tbh bc i can tell its the favorite
completely nailed the joy inspiration, and i’m really glad and surprised people like that one so much. boycott i cant even tell what we were inspired by tbh, i know i was referencing radiohead a lot throughout this tape but even then it ended up turning into something else
so glad u pointed out the emotion too, an issue i touched on during joy was that a lot of our older music was getting boiled down to fun nostalgia silly s*** when we were dealing in depression, racial s***, identity, and a lot of heartbreak and that all kinda was getting ignored except maybe the heartbreak, but this time people seem to get it more.
also totally agree with u on it being one people are gonna look at in the future for us, i think this is our 2nd essential project in terms of bsk with SURF being the first. u completely got the idea of us doing this to get a lot of ideas out then making something more concise after.
thanks for ur words fr i really enjoyed reading this, if i could ask one more thing, what artist do u hear influence from when u listen just from ur perspective
