FBA/ADOS/ or whatever delineation movement you want to call it --- there has been a very strong visceral response to a line being drawn in how one group has decided to identify themselves and i find that so interesting (not in a sarcastic way)
please elaborate; whose response and to which group are you referring to in particular

black americans decided African-American was not a label applicable any more (clealry just talking about the chronically online people)

Fam, explain your point fully please
You're kinda drip feeding it out, please give us your full thoughts/tell us the whole thing
We tryna get to the roots of this

i think you are misconstruing who is igniting the visceral reaction in this situation, from my understanding the people who engage in the FBA rhetoric are doing it from a separation from everyone perspective, which is the issue that people are trying to point out doesn’t exist amongst the larger African population of the world
people of these groups should have every right to identify how they so choose and to seek out reparations as a result of that identification and history, but the conversations extend complete separation from the larger group in order to seek out those reparations. I don’t think one has to be done in order to gain the other. We can recognize those who are descendants of slaves and fight to get them their just dues, and also come together as one descendant people of Africa

I mean that’s point plainly. Without getting too defensive or stirring s***. BA have been shat on by all of the diaspora
Repeatedly about not having any culture + stereotype talking points that mimics republican talking points .. violent, lazy, not invested in education etc. I know that a lot of this comes from what gets broadcasted today along with the century + media campaign the west did to demonize black Americans to world, so that America would be granted justification of our treatment because of our “behavior” (v similar playbook every colonial power in black nations —— Haiti France specifically).
It’s kind of wild to hear my people don’t have any culture and then see Rema dressing like 2007 Wayne and sampling 2000s RnB idk. It’s a mindfuck. Mfs will look you in your face and slander
your identity but not understand that the opportunity to come to America to have opportunity was built on the backs of the civil rights movement. Even worse it feels like this transactional relationship that exists in a one sided way.

I’m not disagreeing that pan africanism in the way. Ultimately, it’s the only way black people will be free from the tentacles of colonization across the world. However, it’s not just oh FBA wants “separation”. While it’s being handled horribly and it’s never a good sign when grifters are pushing the harmful xenophobic rhetoric they are, it feels like a black power offshoot. Obviously not as impactful or concentrated but like someone said earlier it’s clearly a overcorrection to the no culture talking point that’s stuck
Also I promise I’m not trying to argue for the sake of but the topic is incredibly nuanced and deep. We could talk about university enrollment for an example scholarship.law.bu.edu/faculty_scholarship/311

The reason Africans say that ignorant shii is because they don't experience a lot of Black Americans problems largely
descendants of Black immigrants are:
less likely to be discriminated on
less likely to grow up in poor areas
less likely experience police brutality
have higher incomes
have higher education attainments
"complete separation from the larger group"
that's a funny quote because American society has alr separated BA from actual Africans in the first place
Some believe white ppl "just see black" when reality is no our racist society really does see "Tyrone Jackson" and "Obi Tolu" as 2 complete different groups

Eh growing up as someone that was born and grew up in NY but is a child of Nigerian immigrants, I was called African booty scratcher and was ignorantly told that my ancestors were slaves and that mom was Harriet Tubman by niggas from the projects
On the flip side yeah, my parents would say the white folk talking points that black people are lazy, sell d**** etc.
I think the disconnect stems from not truly understanding struggles from both sides. My parents forced me to visit Nigeria once when I was in elementary school. I didn't like it that at the time, but looking back I'm glad I did. I got see the environment in which the grew up in and let's just say that I'm glad that I was born here. They view America has having opportunity to succeed (in comparison to Nigeria where they would have stayed living in the village for the rest of their life ), but they don't realize that is NOT the case for black people and that white people are actively trying keep black people at the bottom constantly.
I don't see anything wrong with black Americans wanting to make the distinction between those whose ancestors are slaves and those that are immigrants. Just don't deny African ancestry, so many died on those slave ships. And try for unity not separation as racist whites will always be the true enemy until reparations are given. Reparations is an acknowledgement that Slavery was a crime that should have never happened and not something that was acceptable or "just a sign of the times" bullshit they like to tell themselves and others
Why is the focus on the online minority fbas/ados
and not on the xenophobic africans and caribbeans who start s*** first. Who are clearly not a minority on how they feel and disparage Black americans.
This one sided hand smacking is getting played out.

Diaspora bullying
is wild regardless of who gets hit.
I think anyone denying their African ancestry is dumb full stop so I can’t rock with that aspect with FBA at all. It’s just illogical.
I do think you can be proud of the knowledge a person may have about their family time in America and that can be enough. When I was younger i was always curious about where I could’ve came from on the continent, but as I’ve grown it really doesn’t matter.
I could take a bullshit DNA test (don’t f*** with 23&Me y’all they will store your biometric data forever) and get rough estimates of what I already know. Odds are I’m west African and probably more than likely Nigerian or Ghanaian. I won’t actually get a linkage on tribe because ya know slavery and that’ll be it.
But as an African American how do you know which country you come from unless you do a dna test?
Most of us just know we’re west African descent and that’s the extent of it
Yeah
Just copying my post from the other thread
"The concept behind FBA/ADOS and establishing a well defined cultural identity should be encouraged. Like African American or Black as a moniker can be confusing for several reasons and defining a unique ethnic group by their race doesn't make any sense.
But the problem with the FBA/ADOS groups is that their ethos are extremely xenophobic and use a lot of white supremacist talking points and comes from the perspective that their ancestors were never African at all which also doesn't make sense.
But yes there should be a new moniker. Feel like its particularly challenging because America is like a blackhole when it comes to cultural identity, which is why it was easier for Caribbean countries to do it"
I've seen a few people embracing "Soulaani" as an ethnic identity. Its meaning is kinda too on the nose for me but I fw what they are going for. It removes all of the stigma that these abbreviation identities pack in them.
If we solidify ourselves there's no need to dictate who's in or out based on something as immutable as skin relativity.
Sadly even if you find out it’ll only be a superficial connection because you aren’t actually from that country
But it is still at least possible for us to find distant cousins from those distinct countries
Fba niggas are just cosplaying racist whites tbh they have zero smoke for whites
Niggas like this don't read at all lol
I’ll also think one of pan-africanism’s failing is “we’re all the same”. Like spiritually at its core it’s true. When you travel the world and randomly see a black person, there’s a shared gaze or nod that says hey I see you. And man is that s*** beautiful. Barriers of language transcends that. Yet, it still removes all the traditions and cultures that black ethic groups participate in that undoubtedly shapes perspective. It’d be insane for me to conflate the Dogon people’s belief systems with Yoruba beliefs lmao.
Instead it should be an embrace of perspective and differences, and how that yields to new opportunities to problem solving.
Marcus Garvey and W.E.B DuBois had two completely different perspectives uniquely shaped by their upbrings, etc. it’d be a bit dismissive to say but we’re the same.
But it is still at least possible for us to find distant cousins from those distinct countries
I mean you’d have to be talented tenth black to be able to have even an inkling of who you’re relatives are on the continent

Oh yeah, this brotha know something

psyop won but this is something
this use to be a normal thing people who now identify as "FBA" would say all the time to me growing up after I told them my name. "Oh damn I thought you was regular black" or "I thought you was black black". This old nigga Torraine should know that.

man what lol
My response to that is, "nigga everybody was f***ed up in the game."
Eventually if you go back far enough it's gonna get to the boat.
The reason I always assumed reparations would always be difficult was just...because I don't think these crackers even have enough or wouldn't amount to enough.
Like the Queen Mother Audley Moore proposal of 500 trillion in damages for 25 million descendants back in 1962 is (imo) still underselling to me.
500 trillion in 1962 money
