primordial Janis AND Jorma
surprised i never heard about this one
i still need to get around to listening to Janis Joplin solo albums lol. after kinda not liking the random songs ive heard over the years. i like big brother and the holding company more because of the searing guitar rather than her vocals tbh

She's only got the one
and didn't even manage to record her vocals for a few of the tracks before she died
I definitely prefer Big Brother too, searing guitar an understatement.

I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! + Pearl tho?

Seems I never got around to Kozmic Blues for some reason
bed reviews and lack of Internet back when I first got into her I guess. Something to look forward to for '69
thoughts on Penniman's first rock single after 6 years of strictly gospel? @Lawdie guess its pretty good but the nonsensical chorus thing just seems so archaic in '64 compared to how fresh awopbomalubop seemed in '55

you never heard them before? i think singer was like 16-17 at the time too
just wait til you hear their possible masterpiece from 1965, Demolición
their compilation Wild Teen-Punk From Peru 1965 is all great. some gnarly stuff. now that I think of it they could have the gnarliest stuff from the year with those rough vocals, there's a few crazier ones

also found this one when digging through my actual Nugget box set liner notes and checking the year of each song

pretty cool b-side too
nimble fingerpicking, supple guitar weaving

Paul McCartney in 1964;
"Cause I don't care too much for money"
"Say you don't need no diamond rings
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want the kind of things
That money just can't buy"

you know the story of why he went electric?

Was there ever a reason beyond just wanting more power in his songs? It's been a while since I've seen Don't Look Back and the Scorsese doc so I'm rusty on my Dylan trivia.

that too probably but after he saw Buddy Holly perform in the 50s he always wanted to be a rocker and had a band several times but some rich kid with fancy equipment would alway come along and steal his band
which is why he said f***it and learned how to do solo folk stuff.
After the Beatles invaded in '63 though he was super pumped on rock again, and even misconstrued the lyrics to I Want To Hold Your Hand "I GET BYEEEEE" part as "I GET HIGGGGGGH" so when he met them in '64 he had some joint pre-rolled expecting them to be stoners
so that was the first time the Beatles smoked real weed which kinda changed the course of pop music. Not long after that he gave his label the demo for Mr. Tambourine man, and they gave it to the Byrds who turned it into a folk rock jam that impressed Dylan so much that he was finally inspired to put a band together again
even let the Byrds release their version before his
