I haven’t heard the whole record, but this Roy Harper song definitely stuck out to me.

I also just revisited Zep 4 and I know it’s a boring take, but that’s probably my favorite.

It's the most iconic but can't go song for song with Houses imo

Houses has The Crunge. One of the worst songs in their catalogue.

Spikey arrythmic funk you wouldn't get it

Also has Rain Song which is their opus

It always felt kind of condescending. Like a bunch of white guys making fun of what they thought modern black music sounded like. And Rain Song is obviously very good, but a little too aimless to ever be one of my absolute favorites.

It's definitely tongue in cheek but I don't think condescending.

Rain Song probably in my top 20 songs by anybody ever it's flawless to my ears

Houses of The Holy lacks edge tbh. The songs are a tad too polished for me. have to give it more chances tho.Graffiti on the other hand just feels more alive to me by comparison. On the contrary, it's pretty disjointed and eclectic. one of the main reasons i love it. kinda between zheir Exile and white album.

unpopular take: PG has almost no duds (aside from maybe Night Flight. that one's a bit boring to me).

We all love a good cheesy 80’s ballad, but many of them felt like a clinically constructed obligation. In the 70’s when a hard rock band put one out, you could sense the genuine feeling they’ve been bottling up. This is an overlooked gem in the genre. Should have been huge. Something about the vocals (or maybe the way they’re mixed) feels a little ahead of its time to me.

I’m just really fond of Over the Hills and Far Away, and especially D’yer Mak’er. The latter has Plant giving such a genuinely sexy vocal performance, like he’s lost himself in an intensely intimate moment. Throughout that track he sounds like he’s on the brink of o*****. It’s also just a nice divergence from their typical groove centric, bluesy influenced sound.

Sentimental Fool outro should be at least 2 minutes longer

  • Oct 28, 2025

Just Another High is still my favorite on there, but Sentimental Fool is climbing up everytime I listen for sure. The last half is phenomenal.

The full album is really bad, but I heard this in a Kenneth Anger film. It’s a fun spooky glam tune. Figured I’d throw it out for the end of October.

    Happy Halloween

I’ve been getting into 70’s soul a lot more lately. If there’s any recommendations you have, that you’d think I’d like based on my taste, I’d appreciate some.
