I know I didnt love spamming gene/eno/neil but they snapped so hard couldn't pretend they didnt

p-funk in the top tier yet again but as you know were getting to the r&b era that I find too slick for the most part

already gave stooges soty twice but yeah punk won't be placing that high again till clash arrive

how about putting more respect on iconic GOATs in their prime from a GOAT music country instead of marinating so hard on unknown later albums from 60s goats or whatever

too much potency out of brazil as to be expected

here is some more of the traditional sounds. Mostly just samba. Lot of the older generation legends experiencing career renaissances due to overall revival and rediscovery of many types of brazilian music all over the country, both rural and urban

Cartola is a contender for best debut album of the year overall. kinda cheating since he was 66 years old and was already one of the key founding figures in samba during the early days. but this late revival era in the 70s was huge for his legacy. He was poor and working as a janitor or something when he was rediscovered by someone and brought back into the music scene. stunningly great artist

part 2 of Brazil post, now focusing on the MPB adjacent world

unreal Jorge Ben album that I think im picking for my overall AOTY. fusion of MPB/samba with some western rock, funk, soul influences is basically perfect. really has a balance of everything, sometimes big arrangements, simple grooves, lush harmonies, stripped back instruments when needed

Elis Regina & Antônio Carlos Jobim collab album is widely regarded as one of the big classics of the era. 2 legends combining even though bossa nova wasnt much in style anymore

Ivan Lins album has some real stunners

Novos Baianos album not amazing like their last 2 but still very worth checking

I gotta listen to this Marcos Valle album some more, its his last one before taking a 7 year break

no Milton Nascimento album but he does have a highly regarded live album backed by Som Imaginario
