They’re very fun, but if you’re not into exploitation movies they might not be your thing. I’d definitely check out Coffy and Truck Turner regardless. Those two are genuinely great, but Disco Godfather is worth watching for how insane it is. Probably the film Black Dynamite is pulling from the most.
Started with Uptight which doesn't quite count cause directed by whitey but it was still great. A remake of Ford's The Informer set in the Black Panther world
I'll admit the lack of women in my top 20 for the last few years isn't a good look but maybe I can chalk it up to the 60s feminist movement making it possible for a much more women-centric view from the female artists in the recording industry. Definitely a good thing but maybe a little harder for me to relate to than back in the early 60s when the girl groups were all over my top 20 with songs written by men alot of the time. At least I had Loretta in the top 5 last year. Almost gave her #1 tbh.
You don’t have to do this clarification. Like what you like.

I know but the Joni thing has been bugging forever

I adore Blue and it keeps growing on me, but I get what you mean by Joni’s approach to melody. I don’t think it’s a “problem” on that record tho. It’s something that becomes more apparent in her later work. You mentioned Sandy Denny and it’s funny cause I think she suffers from that issue on her album “The North Star Grassmen and The Ravens.” Beautiful arrangements on it, but it’s like she’s just singing just to sing. There’s no melodic direction if that makes sense, but her self titled doesn’t suffer from that from what I’ve heard.

Yeah Sandy was in the f***in zone when she sang for Fairport though. And I've seen footage of Joni doing duets where she had to sing in a more traditional style and she sounded stunning.
Yet another early Fleetwood song that sounds like it fathered the Black Keys @twinkletoez
