Yeah I was going to post this one. Didn’t realize this was a popular song until I looked it up on YouTube.
!https://youtube.com/watch?v=ak5bt8ZiBo4&si=Zy9vdLEcAX39MUs0Lmao yeah my dad had that exact Best Of which made me think "dang these guys are lame" and not take them seriously. I recognize that song from it. A better picture and selection of songs could have turned me into a fan decades ago. Like where the hell is Melancholy Man

I think this is a good song, but I can definitely see it on a bad compilation giving off a much cornier impression. In isolation tho it’s pretty nice for what it is. Also darker atmospheric songs like Melancholy Man don’t seem to resonate with the dad rock crowd. Probably why I rarely see A Song From Europe by Roxy Music ever mentioned among older fans of the band. That’s a top 10 or 20 of 1973 for me, but we’ll get there when we get there.

I was turned off so many great bands by the crappy selection and presentation of their later compilations
apparently Tim Buckley was obsessed with blaxploitation films and they were the main inspiration behind Greeting From L.A.
ngl they are a big blind spot for me. guess I should check them out now while im basking in all the classic soundtracks.

They’re very fun, but if you’re not into exploitation movies they might not be your thing. I’d definitely check out Coffy and Truck Turner regardless. Those two are genuinely great, but Disco Godfather is worth watching for how insane it is. Probably the film Black Dynamite is pulling from the most.
didnt expect a funky Pinder bop
@HeyFella @RVI
his other song on there is pretty good as well
i wasnt able to get into this album too much but should revisit

Yeah idk about the rest yet I just jump to the songs from my boy Pinder

hayward >
seems like its
hayward > pinder > lodge > thomas > edge
i guess? kind of a weird thing to rank but theyre also kinda weird how everything seems so split between them all instead of collabs

I definitely haven't looked close enough to rank like this. The other guys have good songs but don't stand out quite like the Melancholy Mon.

Yeah I listened to Blue like 50 times and it's good but I'm afraid I'm kinda immune to its magic
big folk fan wish it wasn't so
Ladies of the Canyon had some keepers last year and I am still looking forward to checking out For The Roses
and i'm noticing this on international women's day
I'll admit the lack of women in my top 20 for the last few years isn't a good look but maybe I can chalk it up to the 60s feminist movement making it possible for a much more women-centric view from the female artists in the recording industry. Definitely a good thing but maybe a little harder for me to relate to than back in the early 60s when the girl groups were all over my top 20 with songs written by men alot of the time. At least I had Loretta in the top 5 last year. Almost gave her #1 tbh.

fall in love again
and then come back to it

a case of you is a perfect song to me
also virtuosic musicianship on display in a tight compact formula that tells a story completely singular to her experience yet widely relatable

I'm already there
the way strings a melody together just does not hit for me and I've been trying for decades. Annoying cause i love basically every other notable female artist from back then and her peers Dylan and Neil are my goats.

Yeah good song, read the backstory etc and appreciate it.. just boils down to her melodic skills not working on me at all. Doesn't matter how good the lyrics are if the melody flies over my head. Sandy Denny probably isn't singing songs on that level lyrically, but they always floor me cause her melodic skills are I guess more traditional.
The Oh Canada part moves me a bit but thats hit of the old nationalism.

Unfortunately he is extremely sexist and hates his own country
