i can absolutely put myself in the headspace of 50s early 60s teenagers and imagine how amazing the pop would be but the bar was dramatically higher by this point. idk man i never liked any of this super heavy clubfooted blooze s***. even when i was a teenager and even when it was Zeppelin. if your album isn't gonna have any melodies for me to cherish then it needs to be a literal relentless but artfully done Hellscape like Fun House.
put yourself in the headspace of teenagers who didnt know the bar was dramatically higher then
i mean i cant really do it that much myself which is why i think vanilla fudge is lame but i can understand the historical value
i also like stupid caveman hard rock more than you anyway tho
stan bias detected
disagree on the acoustic guitars having anything to do with the heaviness. it just makes it a cool ass intro. guitar tone is also much more distorted and production helps High Tide more. i think i told you before but Defecting Grey is equally heavier or heavier than old man going to me. that intro is just kinda goofy rather than menacing tho ill admit
old man going not shaking the room like futilist's lament. there's a lot more bass to the guitar tone
was about to post something from the superior parachute but realized its 1970 and not 1969
yeah i love Defecting Grey but they heavy part itsnt doing anything the fast part of Becks Bolero wasnt doing several years before
Old Man Going has a certified metal riff that conjures images of a dude doing a power stance while making caveman faces on stage with a wind machine cranked on him

i think it was it easier to relate to the college/uni students taste level of the late 60s for me atp
and yeah you just like the caveman hard rock more

defecting grey is definitely heavier than beck's bolero to me just not as good
also slightly different kind of heaviness, pretty things were starting to dip into heavy psych while Beck was too early to combined hard and psych rock in that way cuz he was co-inventing the original styles of both. kinda weird tbh
he also just had too much finesse to do much of the lumbering type of heaviness that defined heavy psych (and later doom, stoner metal)
how about another harder and darker edged psych classic

we have different definitions i guess cause i dont see DG as heavy at all, i see it as hard (during the fast moment). same with Bolero.
the riff from Old Man Going is definition of heavy for me.

all 3 of those are heavy to me. and hard rock. bolero just not "heavy psych" which is honestly a pretty nebulous subgenre anyway. more of a niche overlap fusion than a legit genre
heavy metal tho? none of em are and futilist's lament has some more argument but still definitely a no from me
how about another harder and darker edged psych classic
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dGlXkAl_AQpretty good riff and rhythm. not crazy about the maniacal laugh and horns.

the horns were always a bizarre choice to me but i think its tasteful enough not to take away from the urgency

one of the weirdest pairing for sure but people actually had alot of respect for Tom back then so the CSNY were probably pumped. i think its cool.

Devo covered Secret Agent Man unironically
I thought it was just a fluke. He was seen as a lame boomer lounge singer otherwise.
i might be ready for a tom jones reappraisal, not even joking
