@Aruji you got any gems for '69?
Compiling a list. It's pretty tough for 1969.

Year might've been stronger for Germany if Can were allowed to release Delay in '68 like they wanted
Thief was a top 20 song of last year could've made an impact

surreal to watch people from 1969 dancing like its a rave in 1989

"Through the early sixties, r&b in america had evolved into the slower, bluesier soul. As what was going down stateside began to filter into Kingstons sound systems, many of its key musicians took note and began to put ska through a similar evolution.
In truth, people were beginning to flag at ska's relentless pace, which was particularly hard for dancers to keep up with during the abnormally hot summer of 1966. Also, the joyous sound of Independence was no longer appropriate since "free Jamaica" was sliding towards political and economic chaos. For all these reasons, a new hybrid of ska and solely emerged - Rock steady. The focus shifted away from ska's horn players, towards a smaller - and less costly - rhythm section, with the kick drum hammering the third beat in the bar (aka the one drop), the newly arrived electric base lumbering out to the foreground, and the electric guitar in Oregon played as a part of the rhythmic brew"
Kind of reminds me of the cultural effect of a few really good summers which grew enough grass for the Mongolians to breed enough horses to take over a continent
definitely should've been playing this last year
