Mmm always felt like it's own beast. Velvets and Stooges more extreme to me.

i could see you liking moody blues more than other "prog" because they have good vocal harmonies, shorter songs and are as much prog pop and prog rock tbh

Yeah most of the stuff still in the 60’s works for me

I had to look the other day for historical context on when the last time they gave a rapper album of the year it was decades. They put themselves on a pedestal so it's fun to hate on their stupid decisions.

Is this song the last time he leveled up?

    no

he started as a teenage blues purist acolyte for John Mayall and managed to fill Claptons recently vacated role way better than anybody expected.

levelled up and started Fleewood Mac himself, naming the band after his rhythm section which was cool. still blues.

around late '68-early '69 he started dabbling with lcd and branching out in folkier stuff to stunning effect on some nice singles as you noticed.

later this year he would conjure a towering blues/folk masterpiece album with Then Play On which smokes most everybody this year.

next year he hits his zenith with the cataclysmic single Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown) which is such a powerful recording it basically diminished Peters spirit for a while.

later next year he did some bad acid and quits his own band and comes out with a crazy free form, basically post rock album of instrumental explorations which is truly astounding (i heard it the day he died )

after that he was basically an acid causality and id be surprised if anything matches the early period. another rock and roll Icarus that got too high literally and creatively and never recovered from the comedown like Syd Barrett and Brian Wilson to a lesser degree.
