at a point it just takes the right vision

people said the same about the last of us

the last of us is my top 1 game of all time and when they said they were makin a show out of it i was like "nawwwwww" but season one of that s*** was BETTER. a ton of last of us diehards will say the same.

is resident evil immune to that same treatment? i think NOT

    Fair

But I do think there is more freedom and time to explore + differentiate from the source material when adapting to a television show rather than a movie. The Last of Us Season 1 wasn't a 1:1 adaptation of the game, there was stuff they added that made it even better, like Episode 3 which was phenomenal.

A movie you got 3 hours tops to adapt, with TV you got triple that amount of time at minimum

  • It's like how people say television is a better medium to adapt comic books for because you have more time to flesh stuff out. The same might be true for video games, but then you lose some of the sense of scale and spectacle that comes with film

i see a lotta people mention that bryan sounds like a guy who other mainline games would find in an audio log or thru notes n s*** and to that i say

how do u do spoilers in ts

bryan is solely the most consequential person in raccoon city at this current time. motherfuckin jill, claire and leon sound like notes IN HIS game!!

Who itt would be worthy of being a note in your game?

ya i see what you mean but referentially (not a word made it up for the sentance call me shakespeaere) to dismantle my own point to build it up for this one, there was a lot more meat on the bone so-to-speak in the last of us.

if they wanted to do a resident evil 1 movie, there's only a handful of story beats they're really beholden to. i know people are gonna bring up welcome to raccoon city but there's no way anyone's gonna call that a good rep of the games.

when i think of "note people" i think of the smaller, heartwrenching stories that are depicted in the ghost survivors of re2.

i dont think of people who single handedly have their hands on the cure because s\*\*\*! why am i playing as a rookie cop, put him in MY hands

my only argument to people who say that there's no point in adapting the games anymore is to be like

aight. put urself in the shoes of someone who's ONLY seen the movies. not only seen em, but studied em front to back knows every beat type s***. ask that person to explain the events of the FIRST game. yah yah dat wat i thought

  • my last point cause i been yappin

this is a great movie while simultaneously being the death of resident evil in hollywood

    maybe this movie is ass

  • Cregger talks about the ending

He mentions that he loves the ending and has no regrets. And tbh the more I think about the film, the more I do like the ending

I can absolutely imagine an RE game character battling that monster and then afterward finding his phone with that message to his girlfriend , and realizing that this was just a normal guy at one point

most consequential person but his demise comes from reaching out for a child to attempt to deal with his fear of having one in reality. As well as selfishly lying multiple times and not acknowledging the fact he was infected. I lowkey think it would have been a better twist if when he met the umbrella people with cure he told them that he was infected and the outright killed him then we saw them try to get it back and the briefcase essentially kept switching hands til eventually it made it to umbrella corp. Would have loved to essentially see an anthology of storeis and many keep exchanging the briefcase to deliver the cure. I dont think Bryan was that great of a main character for me

Forreal! that was what i was halfway expecting soon as he walked in the lab. Mentions hes infected immedietaly gets popped

I partially think its tough to adapt the games because fans know how it will play out and it would be best in the game form. Unless you are going to change things while keeping the same characters. Also outside of Robert Pattinson Leon . I cant really see many of these characters matching actors well

Inde naverette Ashely to Pattinson Leon

I want a movie filled with boss fights though and this movie didnt really have boss fights. Looming presence which was akin to Nemesis yes but that same kind of feeling existed in HOPE again I just f***ed with HOPE infinitely more even if I had faults with parts of that too

could even have him get popped and still turn into a zombie. Nobody checking for bites or directly asking if he was infected or bitten or what he dealt with all movie was baffling. Like I get it they are dumb but I havent seen a zombie movie where people arent like "how did you sruvive this far" in a minute. Especially one where he admittedly is just a doordash postmates driver

My central issue is there is not enough of a current to care who lives or dies or the future of humanity in this movie

when every character is joking while dying ,before dying and no one is taking it remotely seriously it just comes across as a parody lol

interesting to note that Cregger doesn't have kids (at least as far as we publicly know) and I don't know if his wife (who is Sara Paxton from Return to Halloweentown?????) is pregnant or not

But the themes of looming fatherhood were so blatant that it makes me wonder

I guess stakes isn’t necessarily something I thought about when I watched this film but this was definitely a huge issue I had with Weapons.

For a movie about pretty heady themes with parenthood, loss of children, how a community handles grief, and even relating that to school shootings particularly, it was frustrating how Cregger simply just put these themes in there and did little to nothing to explore them because he was so in love with his gimmicky POV storytelling to unearth his basic witch mystery story.
