So this movie is like cloverfield 10?

See it for yourself. I was just posting that to make clear some of what cregger fans in here are saying is factually incorrect when they directly saying many easter eggs were added in post .

I am later this week. I meant like was this an original script and was able to slap an IP name to sell it?

See, that’s an actual opinion that’s relevant as a critique to this movie. You feel like the movie doesn’t successfully accomplish what it set out to do. No arguments from me there, that’s subjective.

I HAVE SAID THAT FOR THE PAST 48 HOURS AND YOU HAVE BEEN ARGUING THAT

I HAVE BEEN SAYING I GET WHAT THEY WERE GOING FOR WITH FAMILY, TECH COMPANIES RELEASING A MONSTER AND NOT TAKING ACCOUNTABILITY.

But joking so much and not breathing with some moments it would be okay to breathe with or have him silent. Again comparing him to a streamer often to the point he becomes an annoying character.

No he always had Resident Evil in mind from beginning but didnt think it would get made . He has played the game. Never intended on adapting a game so much as a gamer going through this situation.

He openly says it goes from set piece to set piece. For some the stringing together of set pieces , jokes and what happens next will have them on the edge of the seat even if it somewhat plays out predictably but for others it wont and its okay

Yes again the Resident Evil games have always utilized humor but the humor here again is more of the gamer reacting to the situation than the characters themselves.

Man I wish I could have seen that cirque du soleil practical combination of people. Because while the CGI by weta was solid I always felt the monsters cgi felt uncanny valley or something to me like it didnt feel there. cant describe it

The thing is the more successful it is the more it guarantees whether Cregger does it or not a sequel will be made. Will it be anthology. Will another director get his blessing . Who knows but sony isnt just going to say "cregger is done so we are done"

Oh no, Sony is going to make this a staple

They just have to approach it right

I think they’re going to want to appease the gamers because of how loud the vocal minority was

At the same time the approach to this movie definitely helped pull in non RE fans and that audience overall seems to have really liked it.

I agree on all this . In a way there is a irony to the movie itself . the Monster he created was feeding the fans while also in a way even showing them the action characters they want Maxine can get disposed of and die just as quick as the game but she wont respawn lol . So in a one life playtrhrough first time playing through on the hardest difficulty that is reality with a child on the way and a girlfriend with everyone elses life on the line and you have never fired a gun before how do you play it . I think reversing the reveals may have helped the car expositions was a lot. Knowing that he was bitten and knowing what he was delivering didnt change a whole lot for me . It didnt raise the stakes hugely because the stakes were already felt

To me this movie was that and one of those stories found in audio recordings or notes that you would find while playing the game. I think as a basic approach to a Resident Evil story it worked so well.

I agree but feeding fans may look like placing an action hero against Bryan’s newly formed monster or that of his girlfriend Like if they want to feed fans the solution to me isn’t adapt Leon Jill Ada so much as show other new various people handling it and different style of gamers / doomsday preppers .

How do you best serve casual audience and fans . How do you get fans of the game that refuse to see this or saw it and were just upset about adaptation to see a spiritual sequel

  • Now I want Cregger to do las Plagas f***

  • My goodness this movie….

  • This was ok, a little too goofy for me and the ending was really abrupt

In retrospect, I like the choice of making it be more or less the origin story of an RE end-level boss more and more. There might be a bit more going on here than I initially thought.

  • This was wild lmaooo. And the wifey loved it

A lot of this movie was Cregger just flexing how good he is at tension and atmosphere, because you can tell he could’ve made this wayyy more tense and scary but he purposely held back on the tension. Some really great scares in this though, and the film looked amazing . A shame that Cregger isn’t going to make another one, I think a RE cinematic trilogy could be dope af

The one true critique I’ll give about the humor is that I do wish the jokes were spread out more instead of there being a rapid fire of jokes, but a good amount of the jokes landed for me.

The ending was for sure abrubt af, it could’ve been better if the ending was more subtle

    8/10

That’s a cool way to look at it. I just wasn’t getting the RE vibes I expected from it

Who cares about the fans? He didn’t make this for the fans, he made this for him, a fan, like any other movie. Make the movie you want to see.

I liked the ending. It was a little abrupt but it went in a different direction than I was expecting, which I enjoyed. Austin Abrams does a good job of essentially carrying the movie by himself, although a few times I wanted to scream out “BRO JUST F***IN RUN”

  • Already the highest grossing RE film

Think part of why it feels so abrupt is that the movie is so committed to being from Bryan’s POV that the moment Bryan is lost and the monster takes over, the movie ends because Bryan as a character no longer exists.

Dudes at the end were *literally* fumbling the good ending.

S*** felt like some Until Dawn “Oh s*** I pressed the wrong button during the pivotal QTE sequence and now everyone is dead.”
