He didn’t say that, he said he likes to think it did, but at no point was it ever definitively stated that this movie was canon in any way.

So lemme get this straight, fans want what they see on the animated moves which have lousy dialogue, plot to be on live action.

  • Like again i dont particularly care but of course fans are going to be mad if you say it occurs during the events of RE2 but you make major changes. I dont care but I was trying to understand why people were so mad. At the end of the day I think it will be a fun time. its not at all canon and as he said the games are the games. Its an alternate dimension in many ways.

"I am not trying to adapt a video game. I'm not using the characters from the games. I'm not telling a story that the games tell because I'm not going to be able to do it better than the games. The games are so well executed, and to me, Leon and Claire and these characters, they exist so perfectly in the games that anyone I cast and any difference that I do with them would be, probably, to the detriment of what I was trying to do."

He never claimed otherwise, and the f***ing script for the movie has been out there for a like a year now.

"that and his previous comments made it seem like he has contempt for the games"

    Enough bro. Jesus f***ing christ

Also, are we gonna pretend like Capcom doesn’t take liberties with its own series lore by constantly retconnning s***?

He still said it takes place during the events of RE2

Retconning Spencer being a POS after 20+ years cuz yeah he felt bad is a wild move

It sounds like some of them legit just want novelty movies. Like, something akin to plugging in the main story of RE1 into ChatGPT or Claude or whatever and generating a movie.

He literally says he took liberties and made changes from the original canon

"I take liberties," he told IGN. "It's not 1998. It takes place in modern times. I know that, during the events of Resident Evil 2, it's not snowing, and yet, in this movie, I thought it would be better for the story and for the visual, you know, whatever I'm doing, if it was snowy. It's going to be a better movie for it.

  • Again I dont care I was just trying to understand why some fans were so mad. I follow some angry fans. I am seeing day 1 regardless and this will overall be better than the older movies

But it’s not an adaptation of RE2, he says he’s not adapting a video game (meaning he is not adapting a specific title in the series).

It’s his interpretation, he’s playing within the sandbox that is Resident Evil, taking what he likes about the series (the setting, some of the background elements and the structure/atmosphere) and making his own creative endeavor with it.

I am not saying its an adaptation though. I am saying it combines elements of what was occurring during 2 but not in anyway a direct adaptation.

Yes, because it’s not a direct adaptation.

Yes, because it’s not a direct adaptation.

Some fans thinking just entirely do own thing isnt terrible lol. That is all I am saying. The rest of it I get entirely. Its a one off movie regardless. If its a one off you might as well just create entirely free canvas no even partial ties to anything . For some they just think why adapt at all if the connections are that light. What stops from just being an original horror or zombie movie. Yes there will be easter eggs of the game throughout but for some they think it will be so flimsy that the easter eggs will basically be the bare minimum of jingling keys to connect it.

I am a Cregger believer and hope he makes more and the fans see the vision. We need game movies like this but fans are pissed so will be interesting if the box office can land

It’s currently tracking at a $100 million+ worldwide opening weekend, so I think it’ll be fine on that front.

  • they posting annoying fan rage tweets itt

  • Hoping that either later today or tomorrow we’ll get word on when social/critic embargo’s lift. I know it’s a different movie/studio entirely, but Weapons’ reviews and reactions dropped a full week before the film and contributed a lot to its hype.

Would make sense to follow suit with this as well and to distinguish it further from the previous films.

  • Based on what we’ve seen so far I’m curious about the structure of the film in terms of locales.

It looks we might be going Farmhouse-Sewers-RC Streets-Hospital-Umbrella Labs (possibly beneath the Hospital)?

Wasn't a fan of weapons at all lol but I have a feeling this is gonna be solid.
