Like most Nolan movies, there’s a large audience that eventually went to see it (after Nolan diehards packed theaters first 2 weeks) and left theater underwhelmed. Nothing to do with outfits or politics. Nolan sometimes just sucks ass
lol this is such cap
Most casuals loved the odyssey. It wouldn’t have the incredible legs it has currently if that wasn’t true
It’s like the biggest success story in cinema this year along with Obsession
I know he's probably a fan. However I think he's a fan the way most people say they are "fans' of series of games.
Likely checks out on cutscenes, doesn't read much of the extended lore... and probably doesn't really care about the
overarching vibe of series.
Also most likely one of those "gameplay" first type of players, and probably thinks RE2 is the pinnacle of RE games.... (likely didn't care for anything past 3)
So yeah, I don't think he's a "LARPer" but I do think he misses the point of what people mostly want out of NARRATIVE RE experience.
Hardcore fans, and folks who follow the characters and lore want character interactions, conspiracies, deepcuts... talks of viral strains, top secret projects, people/characters... ironically the stuff Requiem had (though I think it was sloppy).
The gameplay is fun and memorable WITHIN that context. So the issue with everything I've seen is literally because of what I mentioned. I think Zach probably LOVES the games... he probably wrote notes, and learned how to master
conserving ammo etc.
But that's not really the entire experience of these games. Dino Crisis, Silent Hill, and many others shared this gameplay ethos with tweaks to give them their own spice... but what seperated them were their narrative experiences. For RE it was always the cheesy ass action hero cast (YES, even 1, and 2... STARS are elite trained agents... and Claire was described as "good with guns and tactics because her brother trained her*)
Yes the Outbreak series exists, but those were niche titles, with 7 coming the closest in narrative/character (but 8 gave Ethan military training).
The games have always had this "John Mclaine meets Bio-Science Horror" tilt.
Zach's entire premise basically makes the main character a shmuck who acts and talks like a player "okay... so they CAN
die..." like we're "learning the rules with the MC"
But to me it doesn't work. What differentiates something like this, from Shawn of the Dead (which has the same "problem solving, and resource mamagement' represented with a great plot and writing)?
I'd even argue Shawn is a better Outbreak film because it has the whole "group" dynamic as well.
So no. I don't think he's a "LARPer" I think he's a normie fan making a by the numbers zombie flick... focused on one very
generalized element that "defines" the franchise. The movie will be aight. I think Weapons is hella overrated personally, and the guy has been praised as if he is even in the same league as Peele.
For me he's fine. His movies are okay. Not bad; not great.
I think, and am betting this will basically be "the best survival horror flick out there" but RE? Nah. It doesn't carry much of the franchises DNA...
For reference the RE ride at Universal Osaka is a huge dramatic action stage "play" showing off how "cool' the characters are.
Tf is a larper?
Someone that wants others to believe that they’re something that they’re not .
Tf is a larper?
live action role play

Not denying the success. I’m just acknowledging that there’s a significant amount of audience who’s now seen it and left underwhelmed without politics or historical accuracy being a factor.
Yes casuals love it. They usually always do with Nolan. But pretending the hate from it at this point is only from right wingers or history nerds is inaccurate. I’d say more people are talking about how it was just mid, compared to those still talking about the culture war bullshit. Cuz you know, culture war bullshit is a fart in the wind onto the next topic.
Wonder when they’re gonna start hosting screenings?
Imagine social/critic screenings will be sometime next week.

This ain't true at all. Yes, there are people that didn't like it (as is true for every movie ever), but the vast majority of audiences enjoyed it
I’m confused did he say Shawn of The Dead is a better “Outbreak” film than a movie that’s not yet released? What the f*** is this discourse

Once again, haven’t denied the success nor the majority of audience enjoying it. You’re struggling comprehending my point that was made to OP. No need to be a sensitive sissy about Nolan movie. I know the normies love him

You said there's a significant amount of audience that disliked it. That's not the case

Significant means “most” to you? Are you slow?
Significant means “most” to you? Are you slow?
"Significant audience that disliked it"
"Large audience that went to see it and was underwhelmed"
How is this not you saying that most people who saw it didn't like it?

How? Because that’s not how English and those words work? I’m describing a ~not small~ amount of people went and saw the movie and left underwhelmed without politics or history being a factor. Relax, not trying to pretend Nolan isn’t a box office monster.
These fans are exhausting a good film in the universe doesn’t need to give the same exact high as the game nor can it
Acting like b****es is why we can’t even get attempts at movie or anime cause they want the game
Gamers talking about art

100K is a ~not small~ number of people, but if 100K people dislike a movie and 3M people liked it, you wouldn't say that a "significant amount" or "large number" of audience members disliked the movie
The way you phrased it frames it like The Odyssey had a mixed reception overall
When a movie is so mid all you can do is semantic battles about box office and acclaim 🥱
It's not semantics, you just straight up saying untrue things
It's like if I said "a significant amount of audience didn't like Sinners"
That is just... untrue

Yeah but you can say this for any loved filmmaker
There’s a significant amount of people who don’t like kubricks films or Hitchcocks films or even the Godfather.
Nobody is gonna please everyone. The point is there are far, far more people who love The Odyssey than hate it. Nolan doesn’t make artsy fartsy movies for a select audience like the Daniels or Chloe Zhao. And even for those filmmakers, you hear plenty of hate everyday for EEAAO or Nomadland. So it’s just expected that for the vastly larger group of people who’ve seen the Odyssey, there is going to be valid criticism of it amidst all the praise
The idea of trying to capture the feeling of the classic RE gameplay through film is pretty neat and that’s how video game adaptations should be
