    Is the film good?

The answer will depend on who you ask, it’s a divisive experimental horror film.
Definitely go check it out and experience it for yourself though

    It’s a one of a kind experience

”I don’t want to leave YouTube behind. I immensely enjoy the work I’ve done there, and I feel creatively fulfilled by it in a way that’s proportional to what I’ve done with this film. I personally think there’s merits, because there’s a lot of projects that I just could never do outside of YouTube, or outside of a more free-form internet multimedia container. So I wouldn’t limit myself just to one spot, but I do think it’s a way of saying that I’ve got a bit of a good thing going right now that I want to utilize with the energy and positivity around this film."
For people who are into it, I’ve got a contract, and I got a hold at my end, and that means I am definitely not done with 'Backrooms'"

So Kane signed a contract with A24 to keep making Backrooms films

the lore/mechanics that the rooms create low effort, crude ass approximations of the memories of objects, people, buildings, rooms of people that go in

is really good stuff feels very fresh and so much from the mind of a kid who grew up on the internet and had valve games be their informing texts the way old movies were the informing texts of older directors

it could be about memories, or ai, or gentrification, or tRaUma. but it just on paper, at its core, is a really cool and unique horror mechanic

  • Having seen some of the shorts going in, I thought the film did really well in showing the backrooms to a greater scale. The script a little thin but Chiwetel Ejiofor especially was acting his ass off in this. Excited to see what Parsons does next.

  • You'd gotta think, sequel/sequels on the way?

In the dinner table scenes, some of her louder moments and more frightened/shouty line readings were really silly and bad.

Tbh I felt the same about Chiwetel in those scenes too and just chalked it up to them playing into how insane and silly the set up was but I still think she's a good actress and she did well in A Different Man too

after talking about the movie i feel better about it. i think this is a movie that should be watched alone in your room or something. my crowd was asscheeks.

  • Digged it. Felt like a bad acid trip. Visuals wise the shots and backrooms exploration were really cool. The "scariest" parts were the found footage bits, but i still enjoyed the atmosphere of it all. I liked what they did with the distorted people, I was hoping it wasnt the same electronic pipe thing from the shorts. Cool they found a way to make the creatures an expansion of what the backrooms is. Ending did enough i feel without trying to overexplain and kill some of the mystery of backrooms
