Had the same reaction as the manga. Great great ending but terrible justification of actions going on. that I did this just because I wanted you to be heroes bit is so corny to me like we’re talking about eradicating 80% of humanity and not even all of your friends are gonna make it with the 20% so how devoid of humanity do u have to be to kill 80% of it just to keep your cozy little friend group alive? And he also died in the process I feel like there was another way but if I have some misunderstanding I’d love if someone explains it better also idk if the armin dialogue on the beach is the added part but it also didn’t make sense to me felt very unlike Armin to act like a master manipulator
I think Eren initially justified his actions thinking he was doing it for his friends but at some point he realised deep down it was a lie and he was doing this for himself but he kept the facade up anyway by pushing them away. I’m glad it was explicitly said in the anime because people online cannot accept this. Reminds me of Walter White in that sense.
There were definitely other ways they could’ve been handled this but it wouldn’t be true to his character to pursue these other options imo since he has a hero complex and he is scared to die thinking he has achieved nothing. The alternative timeline was interesting though, I’m not sure if Mikasa’s answer in Marley would’ve changed things.
I’m with you I found the Armin stuff with Eren to be off. Must’ve been the tone of the whole exchange
Was the anime ending identical to the manga ending? I haven’t watched the anime since the ending of part 1 of the final season
Not identical during the dialogue scenes at the end but everything else is pretty 1:1
Id have to rewatch/re-read this part cause i dont remember this part that well so i'll get back to this post in a few days
Preciate it

Isayama said breaking bad inspired him so not far fetched

Aaaahhh that makes this story even better lol. I figured that's why the same type of eren fanbase matches with Walter white.
Rewatched
Completely changed my opinion on it. I don’t think I fully grasped everything said the first time, also with the additional knowledge I have now it was more understood.
Actually was a great ending, terribly depressing nonetheless.
Makes me even more sad
My GOAT Anime by far
I will say, I think the anime made it more clear that Eren was a selfish a****** that liked the attention from Mikasa rather than actually "loved her" with how he said "I want her pining after me for at least 10 years" It plays into the parallel with Mikasa and Ymir while also explaining why Eren never showed interest in her throughout the series. He just liked how she revolved around him. Just like how King Fritz treated Ymir (obviously not as extreme but you get the point). Ymir was inspired by Mikasa freeing herself from that parasitic love to release the curse. At least, that's my interpretation. Wish this was more fleshed out but I think I get what he was going for
It's hard to like the ending when the characters actions are just being a selfish a****** who likes attention.
Mf killed 80% of the earth for that? It's a difficult rationalization.
I just don't think I can like the ending but big animes like this usually really struggle with their endings. There's only a few that really hit for me when they've gone on for a long time.

Nah he did it because he's an idiot, didn't you hear him? He's just a quirky guy that made an oopsie

Would’ve worked so much better if Armin was the one who called him out on his motivations being BS 😫😮💨 that’s what I was hoping

Armin didn't stand on bidness 😩

it wasn’t a lie it just wasn’t the root cause of him actually going as far as he did. He was basically saying that his reason for flattening the world was beyond him just wanting to save his friends and spare them an early grave. He wanted to see an empty world to explore like what was in Armin’s books.
He was being extremely selfish in his outlook on life and his disappointment in that humans freely existed outside yet were still cruel and also worthy of empathy, the conflict in his actions he felt. But he just couldn’t move past seeing that world where there are no titans and just empty yet unexplored (to them) regions.
With all that said he still wanted his friends to come out on top he just wasn’t sure how it would play out since he didn’t want to manipulate their will. Eren put them above humanity, but he still had to see his dream before he died.
I can’t tell you how much I had to stomach to actively root for Falco and especially Gabi man
Pairing them with reformed Annie helped though
Having Zeke, DIO and Toji on your IMDB is so insane man
Wait he’s Bobobo in the Japanese dub
Dang man it's really over. I put off watching the finale until today because I wasn't ready.
Ngl I shed a tear or two, I ain't scared to admit it. I've been watching this show so long I remember reacting to the manga chapters every month in the KTT1 thread lmao.
Mappa blew it out of the park. This is cinema.

I cried several times. Just sucks to be losing something you’ve been in love with forever
Gotta sit down and watch this. This show has been in our lives for a decade
