Look at any box office success ever and you will see that they were still making a decent amount of money in their later weeks, capping every film at three weeks would completely destroy that

That’s like saying “an album’s first week is its biggest sales week so we should pull it from DSPs afterwards”

For big blockbusters im sure they will keep them in theatres longer if they still doing big numbers in third week.
But for a movie like anaconda there is no reason it needs to be in theatres longer then 3 weeks

While I am pro theater experience and pro movies getting long theatric runs

I do question outside of film lovers going to rewatch a movie for the 2nd or 3rd time, who’s really going to a movie 80 days after the release? I know for me personally I catch movies the first week it comes out. Preferably premiere night. Very rarely do I wait til the 2nd week, 2nd and 3rd week are usually if I’m doing a rewatch

Universals window is interesting.

FNAF 2 went to digital after 18 days but it’s already in the green. People still are seeing it in theaters a month later.

I think putting it on a streaming service is different than putting it on iTunes for example.

Those casual viewers will either watch on Netflix or miss theatrical on some movies . A major options is film makers who don’t f*** with a short theatrical window . The idea of even shorter theatrical window even besides Netflix was started by a dip in theaters even post pandemic
