Sooo we should be pro-racism against races that aren’t ours?

What if Black not my only race either?

Dude I never said black people should be pro-racism.

I think black people should take the approach of not giving a f*** about other races, the same approach they take for us.

Black people quick to throw on a cape and jump in front of a bullet for someone else for ā€œpoc solidarityā€ when no one else does it

    Crazy world

  • I got friends, and had girlfriends of all races. So it’s literally no beef with y’all or any other race.

But understand when myself or others in this thread are speaking on subject matter such as this, it’s not to s*** on y’all.

It’s literally just calling out the hypocrisy and the racism that we face.

if you're not asian and/or don't interact with like asian immigrants like 45+ i just dont think you get it tbh....

like it's v nuanced, but to say that colorism and isn't something that is more common than not in asian communities (particularly older ones) would be very dismissive...

and also i think dior was discussing more of a trend in east asian american political awareness of wanting increased cultural representation and voice in america but boxing out other asian voices (none of my non-east asian asian friends feel comfortable in the various asian american meme groups that have sprung up on fb, just as a light example), piggy backing on black culture in a rather non genuine way (88 rising's signing of higher brothers, for instance) while dodging political conversation, and in general sorta being rather self serving.

Well idk where you live or what you’ve experienced but where I’m from all minorities, including asians, have a sense of comradery. Which is why I’m so confused as to why OP is generalizing so hard as if all Asians are the same.

I mean I’m 21 bro and most asians that I know were born here and the few immigrants I know are of my age group.

Here’s how I’ll put it: my mom is almost 50 and all her friends are Asians (we don’t live around many black or Native American folks sadly) and they all love her like a sister and love me like a nephew. I can definitely understand that there is a more discriminatory culture in older Asian age groups but OP said ā€œAsians: why do YOUā€ as if ANY of the Asians he’s talking about are here on KTT. OP making it seem like he’s talking about all Asians when I know damn well he’d be tight as f*** if someone generalized all black people.

yeh i don't disagree necessarily... but i think op was concerned not with outright discrimination by all asians, but more of i suppose online social activism by asians on fb and twitter for asians, where asian americans tend to not look at racism in the us as a systemic power structure whose effects towards black people is something that needs to be addressed at the same time as the effects towards other nonwhites, if not before, because of how racism as a structure is upheld in the us

if that sorta makes sense??? like i think east asian american online activist voices in particular really tend to ignore even other asian americans even while trying to say they are pursuing a pan asian american goal.

and i don't really follow this stuff tbqh but i did click one link he posted about the beauty supply store somewhere in this thread and it did make me sad, because there's a lotta potential to have a deeper conversation about racism in the us among asians and black people, but that tweet reply in particular came off as just really self centered and unaware

The word "generalization" is becoming a buzzword and scapegoat to avert the reality we know exists, extreme anti-blackness in the Asian community. It's literally a part of Asian culture to teach their kids to be anti-Black. Your outlier family or examples of few instances where Asians show solidarity is far from representative of the reality we face in racism from Asians on many levels. Maybe if the majority of Asians I've interacted with irl didn't hit me with racist bullshit then your argument would be more substantiated, however, I experience it literally daily going to the corner store. Then when the white people come in the Korean store owner is super nice and s*** like he talking to god. Sorry if the disillusionment makes you feel attacked but nothing I said is anywhere near inaccurate and a few Asian social justice warriors don't make up for the toxic culture that exists surrounding the treatment and views of Black people in the community. Period. My ex was literally Chinese and we lived together and she would get on the phone with her parents and they call me all type of through the speakers, in Mandarin, and she taught me enough to know all the f***ed up words that exist in the language TO identify black people. She had to hide our relationship for months just so her dad wouldn't, in her words, "stop sending me money for university".

I speak on real life s***, this isn't a fairytale. @kollaps and from the looks of it, most blacks in here have been through similar s***.

Aight man I cant address everything you said but ill try to address what stood out to me the most:

I dont want you to think that me blaming you of generalizing is AT ALL me trying to take away from your experiences.

I kinda was just speaking from my perspective. Look at a post I wrote before where I said that I felt as it your post was addressing all Asians. I know it’s probably not your intention but I do think it’s quote obvious that you’ll get polarized responses just because of the vague language.

And by the way man that kind of treatment you received from your ex isn’t exclusive to Asians. My ex is Russian and her dad told her it was either me or college and she chose college.

Word after OP’s last post in which he @ me I think I understand his perspective more.

I just wish we would all work harder on the way we phrase our points and arguments because using generalizations is only gonna prompt these types of responses from people like myself, even if I actually agree with his underlying point.
