studio display is not worth it at all

What are we going to compare it to on the market? Only thing in its stratosphere is the UltraFine 5K, which it has plenty of advantages over to justify the $300 price hike.

i wanted an iMac anyway so for me a refurb 27 inch is a better deal

Everyone says a desktop + box is better than an all-in-one, but the AIOs are always significantly cheaper for the same spec. Even a Mac mini with this display is more expensive than a base model 27-inch would be.

And people say a standalone monitor will last longer but that’s really arbitrary. Because when the computer is old you will have to upgrade the whole device, but you really should be able to keep using the screen as an external display. Apple just doesn’t allow it. They could do it if they wanted to, they just don’t. The panel in the Studio Display is almost the exact same as the iMac.

A 1080p camera is a nice feature but not needed for me, and definitely not worth the upgrade

So right now it looks like my options are:

Wait for them to make a 32-inch iMac
Wait for them to make the this display more compelling for the price, or
Wait for them to make a cheaper version of the Pro Display

Just went from IOS 15 to 15.4 and damn everything is so much faster now lol

It was already fast already but now everything is just so much more snappy

I do hope they expand the iMac lineup back to a larger size but the 'modularity' of having the computer and monitor separated should give the whole system more longevity. I feel you on that whole package being cheaper though, the price increase between the 27" iMac and the new Studio + Display is pretty insane.

Display technology does move slower than computers though and that's fact. I think a lot more people are using Thunderbolt displays from 2010 than there are people using Macs from that same timeframe. I 10000000% agree on it being insane that Apple nerf'd Target Display Mode off the iMacs, that was foul af.

I think the 27" mini-LED panel that's rumored to be in the works will probably be introduced as a smaller version of the XDR but you're not getting that for less than $3k and that's fact. It would be cool if they released another larger iMac or iMac Pro but the Studio + Display kills that in everything except price I think

Typing this from my Studio Display and I will tell you there's nothing on the market like it. My Dell U2720Q was absolute s*** in nearly every way compared to this. Crystal clear, insane color accuracy, glossy panel, remarkable build quality, crazy speakers, etc. etc. etc. Love it

I’d say it probably comes down to your tolerance for screens. MBA is likely to just get a 60Hz LCD while the MBP has 120Hz mini-LED

Air will be crazy thin/light with insane battery life but won’t have the ports or power or screen quality of the Pro

Personally I’d recommend jumping on the Pro. Most incredible all-around piece of tech I’ve ever owned. Every aspect of it is A1. But if your budget is tight or you don’t care about the extra s*** it offers then the Air is gonna be great too

My girl is a video editor and just got a monitor similar to the studio monitor (not from Apple tho) and it’s soooo nice

Now I want the Studio display but I’m a programmer and basically have no need for anything like that. Still fantasize about it tho
