Got diagnosed with it at 7 years old, though I’m speculating that I could also have ADD. Made my life difficult in various ways, to the point where it drove me to depressive and suicidal thoughts.
Anyone else? I know it’s stigmatized but thankfully there’s greater awareness regarding the condition nowadays.
You got fully diagnosed with Asperger’s?
they retired that diagnosis but my brother was diagnosed around that age too
idk what the spectrum was like for that condition but i’m kinda surprised you’re on a website like this; a lot of the malice and content on here would be super triggering for him

In my case, I’m guessing I’ve seen enough s*** on the internet to the point of getting used to it. So far this website’s content doesn’t appear too malicious based on using it for only few weeks, but that’s my experience.
I was able to make some friends during my primary school days, got my drivers license early on, was able to hold down the jobs I worked at, etc. and to make things clear, my parents told me I was diagnosed as very high functioning.
Curious, how old is your brother? And what’s his experience with this condition?

that makes sense; hopefully you continue to have a good experience here, and yeah, it def sounds like you’re on the higher functioning end of the spectrum
my brother is 22 and without going into too much detail, he’s essentially mentally stuck at the age of 11
he has add too
he’s never been able to make friends because he has zero ability to understand social cues (and constantly forgets about basic grooming) and he gets overstimulated extremely easily (he’ll run out of the room crying if things are too loud or bright or people are too mean, even online)
he had an aid in high school, but he also was able to go to community college, get a driver’s license (my parents never let him drive alone though), and work a job
all in all, there are levels to how highly he can function, but i could see him getting his own apartment if he had a loved one live super closeby
i maybe shared too much but i’ve kinda looked after him my whole life so it’s an important condition to me
Most likely, already diagnosed w/ADHD and exhibit a lot of autistic traits (a lot of which are likely because of the neurodevelopmental delay/poor sensory integration aspect that's shared between ASD and ADHD)
But obviously very high functioning

Sucks to hear about the struggles your brother is going through, but at the same time, it’s great to see him making strides and achieving his career/academic milestones.
I do have sensitivities with certain stimuli, loud sounds in particular. In addition, I’m fine with socializing, would even describe myself as a shy extrovert, but my social battery doesn’t last too long.
What sucks the most is I hardly have friends left, most of them either moved away or simply abandoned me. Been looking for places to meet new people, but I’ve been overwhelmed with my work, studies, and depression.
I tried to get diagnosed last week cause a guy I was talking to said I might be on the spectrum
When I gave my reasons for thinking I’m on the spectrum to the therapist who was supposed to administer my test however, she seemed to be skeptical I could actually be on the spectrum and I’m supposed to meet her again today to actually discuss my problems and help me feel better about my situation. Hopefully it goes well
I have Asperger’s.
It has caused problems for me, but it’s still a part of who I am and I’m proud of it
Yes
Funny thing is;
In the 25yrs i tried my best to seem normal i always got bullied/teased for being autistict
Then i got diagnosed at 26
And started doing myself, specially with music(got synesthesia)
Just being my full autistic self and nobody has ever said or spotted
Even when i talk to fellow autistic people on da streets, they can never tell
I don't think people here associate autism with African people in da first place specially not in arts
But most musicians do have it
No
