rolling stone tried but it will be hard to replace billboard.
For sure, but Youtube are no slouches, and I'm not saying it will happen, but it certainty wouldnt surprise me
One step forward, two steps back
"We’re simply asking that every stream is counted fairly and equally, whether it is subscription-based or ad-supported—because every fan matters and every play should count."
yea they want flat rate lol
Whoever drops between Jan. 2nd and Jan. 15th is gonna maximize their sales with the new streaming boost while YouTube still counts
They not wrong
every stream should be counted equally
Billboard is basically saying poor people streams don’t count the same
It wouldn’t make sense for them to count the same
It wouldn’t make sense for them to count the same
Do artists get paid more when someone with a paid subscription streams their song as opposed to ad supported streams?

It's says in the post why they're backing out. Billboard model weighs subscriber listens over ad based listens. YouTube is saying they should be on equal footing to reflect actual listenership. Which would put more of a premium on their role in the whole thing, but it would also be more accurate.

I don’t know for sure but I would assume that they did

maybe as a middle ground they make audio count the same but not music videos. But they already increased the weighting of free streams so this mightve been an issue they had for years.

they're supposed to but you know how spotify be f***ing them over
YouTube slowly moving towards hiding the view number
AI companies already don’t have to reveal true stats. now they not submitting numbers. Gemini streamers otw!

I think it should be the opposite. Music videos should count the same for all views, but the audio-only ones should absolutely weigh more when from a paid subscriber

I'm reading between the lines and having a bit of foresight here
Obviously it says why, it's just obvious they value themselves more than billboard values them, and the same billboard has been so s***ty lately, I wouldn't be surprised if Youtube took over 10-15 years
latino artists about to see their numbers plummet
Youtube is basically cable at this point, I dont see how a total takeover is out of the question
I don’t know for sure but I would assume that they did
It should be the case. Either way seems like a weird precedent to set. It’s all manipulation at the end of the day. A stream is a stream is a stream.
Waiting for privacy to go out the window completely so they can say “if your phone speaker picks up a song someone else is streaming then you’re basically listening which should count as part of a stream too”
oh this is truly gonna be the death of the music video. sad
like is this gonna include the YouTube Music app too? 😭😭😭😭 that’s a legit streaming service. i hope they come to an agreement.

Theres gonna be Spotify exclusive music videos now

Billboard is kind of dated as a concept. It was more valuable when you had the radio and CD sales and all of these complex real world means of listening to music. Now everything is digital and instantaneous. kworb.net can tabulate everything automatically
But as long as the labels and artists value it, I guess they can clean up on charging for "certifications".
damn I forgot about tiktok yikes
At this point i’m surprised songs being used as sounds on tiktok doesn’t count for something. Tik tok already has their own billboard chart

🤔
i could see that to. But then you would still have artists like taylor only dropping "music videos" to get around rules even though they super low budget.
