but all of these still have moments where you have to suspend your disbelief and remember it’s just a cartoon lol. But yeah, TR not anywhere near touching those classics

To be fair, you kind of have to do this with every anime lol. They are cartoons. Personally I don't like hxh or one piece, but Jujutsu, One punch and Mob are all fire.

It seems like Todoroki's character arc would be to forgive Endevour. If that happens it sends a message to the audience that an abusive parent can be redeemed.

Obviously we like to see anti heroes redeemed but the only thing that seems to change him is that he's the number one hero, which seems really shallow.

It's cool that they don't forgive him immediately but if he, like, dies or he saves a family member and they forgive him that's lame. This obviously wouldn't fix anything. I'd respect it more if we see him make an effort to change and not just say he changed.

I mean, the reason he changed is cause he spent his life chasing was becoming number 1 hero, even going as far as basically genetically engineering his kids to reach that goal in case he couldnt, but when he finally got to that point he realized what he lost to reach that goal, mostly his family. He started by changing his views on being a hero, going from a selfish brute who only thought about destroying his foes into a hero acknowledging of his position of the #1 hero and all the responsiblities that come with it. Next is his relationship with his family. He knows that his family might not accept his apologies no matter how much he tries to right his wrongs but he's still going to try because he wants to be part of that family again. The message here to me is that every person deserves a second chance in life. He was a toxic a****** who sacrificed his family for his selfish goals but hes willing to apologize for his wrongdoings and change as a person

I might be wrong but I didn't see him take full accountability. Sorry for hitting your mom sorry for abusing you sorry for ruining your childhood. Also this has been going on for years. I'm assuming this happened with the older siblings too so like 25 years of this man's life he didn't have time to reflect only after he becomes the #1 hero? Literal decades when he could've paused and reflected at any moment. This is a character more cruel than most MHA villains.

He hasnt completely you're right, his apologies have only been accepted by shoto's mom and sister after all, and it seems he has to go the extra step with natsu and shoto. Its not easy for any of the parties involved and i think the show has succeeded in showing that, and especially endeavor has to work very hard to right his wrongs and join the family again, and even if it seems shoto wants to forgive him, endeavor needs to give him a final motive to do so. I havent read the manga so i dont know how it will be resolved but as of now im satisfied with how its been handled. The situation is recognized by all parties as a difficult one to deal with, and endeavor's family isnt quick to forgive him, which also works for endeavor's character since both him and us are not completely satisfied yet with his character

Do you guys f*** with dubs? I have only watched a few that actually do the the anime justice and want some recommendations. Most are soo bad that I honestly cannot believe it compared to the original.

Finished watching and reading Bloom into You recently. There’s a s*** ton of video essays and write ups on this show already so I don’t wanna say much. The show explored things like longing for connection and being conflicted with which “version” of yourself is the real you. I appreciate small details in the way the characters gradually changed such as how they look and talk to each other. Overall… worth the watch/read if you wanna switch it up from the usual roms/coming of age.

Gotta mention the OST might be my favorite in any rom I’ve seen. Also ep 6 river scene

You're probably spot on. I just got into manga and was tired of reading Japanese translated to English.. So I tired the Dr Stone dub.. Jesus Christ lol. After two episodes I was done and switched to subbed.

of course lol but anime in general just isn’t a medium suited for overthinking, especially the ones like Tokyo Revengers that are made with a teenage audience in mind

The thing is this applies for absurdities that make sense in the context of the world of that story.

TR MC is just stupid, there’s nothing else to it. This isn’t overthinking anything, because he stays stupid no matter when he is.

I can look past the 12 yr old starting a whole gang empire and killing mf having whole wars though cause like you said it’s anime.

yea i prefer them most of the time. i have trouble making out differences in vocal inflections and tone in Japanese and thats such a huge part of language imo

everyone i see says most dubs are horrible but i really havent run into too many that i dont enjoy
