I just finished the "Falcon of the Millennium Empire" arc of Berserk. Despite some gruesome moments, it feels a lot less grim compared to earlier arcs.
Some side characters are getting more interesting too
The influence of Devilman is becoming more obvious. I appreciate how both series subvert the typical association of the protagonist with a heroic appearance and the antagonist with a monstrous one (Guts looks crazy w/ the Berserker armor).
my favorite arc in the series by far, even more growth from guts, learning to put more trust in others + fun cast of characters of added to his journey with some of the best fights ever drawn.
the guts vs zodd fight in the beginning and the one against ganishka are still some of the best things ive witness on paper
you'll definitely love the next arc fantasia too
when it turns out Johan was pretending to be Anna my mouth was wide tf open lmfaooooooo first time thats ever happened 2 me watchin TV

I get why people love the Golden Age arc - it really hits hard story-wise. But honestly, I think the story gets even better in the later arcs. And yeah, the way Miura captures light in his drawings is unreal. It blows my mind how talented he was, mastering so many different aspects like writing, art style, composition etc.
Btw, I’ve finished reading the whole thing :) The Fantasia arc was amazing, but the highlight for me was definitely the climax—the recovery of Casca's mind. The way Miura illustrated that process was absolutely incredible.
However, I now find myself with mixed feelings. The conclusion of chapter 364 was devastating and a major cliffhanger, but I'm struggling to connect with the chapters released since his passing. I understand that he entrusted a childhood friend with key elements of the story, but it's not the same. Nothing was written down before he died, and I feel a sense of uncertainty about the narrative - wondering if this is truly how Miura would have done things.

yep you get it. golden age arc truly is some remarkable s*** but i always appreciated how grandiose the story got as it progressed later on. theres usually a loud minority that thinks golden age is the peak of the series and that the rest isnt as good but its almost always from people that just watched the anime and read where it left off (despite the anime cutting out a lot of s*** from the manga).
glad you enjoyed fantasia arc, i remember being in complete awe reading the casca dream sequence for the first time.
also yeah the continuation is gonna be pretty rough going forward. miura's assistants only helped him out with background details but ultimately miura handled everything else, so writing isnt exactly their strong point. for what its worth, kouji mori (miura's best friend) whose supervising the continuation did say he won't deviate from what he remembers with his convos with miura and also he feels very confident that he can retell the ending so im a bit hopeful for that. still though its genuinely a huge loss miuras not around to tell his story.

I watched the anime years ago. With the manga, I decided to start from the beginning and read the whole thing. I'm really glad I did. The manga's visuals, tone, and atmosphere are on a whole different level. Some parts were so intense they actually made me feel stressed.
On a related note, I think some Berserk fans miss the point of the story. I've seen people clamoring for more violence and even saying dumb s*** like “Griffith didn’t do anything wrong” (which apparently started as a meme, but seems to be taken seriously by some now).
2.5D
yea i need to start this s*** soon
hopefully it’s not a drop ting
