Yeah and him being a pedo isn't ever viewed as a bad thing. Very off-putting and unnecessary. Definitely a larger issue in Japanese culture that pops up too much in anime. It's a shame because the stories be so good but a lot of these authors can't help but insert some perverted s*** involving underage characters. This has to be the worst case I've seen yet tho
Facts. When I first got into anime, my biggest gripe was how underage characters were sometimes portrayed (either sexually or suggestively) in certain stories. Like you said, that kinda stuff can pop up unexpectedly and ruin the vibe. I could be wrong, but thankfully it does seem like things are improving a bit with some productions choosing to tone down or leave out the more "fanservice-y" stuff.
this the first time i've seen these types of fans called "tourists" and it's so funny

For sure. Manga in general is trending away from the fanservice which is good

I’ve seen people throw that “tourist” term around, and the subtext is sometimes kinda questionable.
As for that tweet: something targeted at boys (shounen) has historically focused on male leads, true. If you’re looking for female MCs, you should absolutely broaden your scope to shoujo/josei manga (they’ve been doing that for decades).
However, that tweet feels disingenuous, because the original post was celebrating more female leads in shounen specifically - not claiming it’s something “new or profound” in manga as a whole
Imo it’s cool seeing the biggest, most mainstream manga space open up to different kinds of stories.

😬
based on this tweet and their replies to other people it just seems like someone who hasn't ventured outside of shonen and uses shonen as their baseline for anime/manga
you're right about the other stuff though
glad to see shounen watchers dont think female characters are icky anymore
something something anime being synonymous with a genre aimed at 13-year old boys is bad for the medium

Yeah, I think their inital point is still valid, but they definitely need to explore more.

u gotta let these anime twitter users have their moment
they have nothing else in their life to be happy about except for their profound knowledge of anime so if they can't gatekeep there's nothing else to live for
calling people anime tourists is corny af but these people can't help it their hobby isn't special anymore lol

I think it's slowly being changed with some mangaka attempting to showcase assault being really awkward or flat out wrong a lot more often in more serious stories.

I think the conversation is so funny because it's implying that a genre catered to boys can't have female leads in the first place??
tojima wants to be kamen rider is great, super funny and odd. reminds me a lot of under ninja, which kinda sucked and no one watched lol

You're spot on, man. Tbh I just don't like when people make arguments in bad faith, or lacking any type of nuance.

Yeah, I totally agree. It’s kinda weird. Some people forget that “shounen” is just a demographic label, not a rulebook. And there’ve been successful shounen series with girls as main characters (The Promised Neverland, Soul Eater), and it feels like demographic lines like shounen/shoujo/seinen/josei are more porous than ever. The modern audience goes way beyond just “little boys,” and pretending otherwise feels pretty disingenuous.
Nice Norio/Nakamura inspired fight animation by
a student. Saw Shingo Yamashita and Masaaki Endo praise it on the feed
