The US has the highest poverty rates of all OECD countries. And this is using outdated and purposely deflated poverty measures. So you’re just objectively wrong.
Again, I didn't say America is perfect. Just you have the highest chance of making it here rather then anywhere else
Funny how mad people get from threads like this considering how many people worldwide probably agree with you
Real
I'm from Atlanta, been living in Costa Rica for the past few years to stay close with family. CR is a 3rd world country
It's gonna be mainly sheltered Americans and Europeans who don't travel, or only travel for vacations/business, that got a problem with OP's overall message

Obviously not if we have the highest poverty rates of all “developed” nations

Like it’s one thing to disagree but people are fuming over what’s honestly overall not that crazy of an observation
The amount of money Americans make is actually unreal. Even educated professional Britons enter a state of shock and disbelief when they hear how much money a new grad software engineer in the US makes.
It’s relative though, s*** costs way more here and it also costs a ton of money to get that degree
Basically anyone without that degree can’t afford their own home
nordic countries overrated imo lol
they always dominate happiest country lists

America is best characterized as a very rich country with some very poor people and not a poor country with some very rich people -- the article includes sources, but by pretty much any metric the median American household is very wealthy/high income relative to the rest of the world (and relative to previous Americans). And anyone in the top ~10-20% (about 145K for a household) of the US income distribution will be doing incredibly well by global standards.

This is why I still believe America is the country to be the American dream is still very much attainable and very much alive
We have our problems (and theyre big ones) but anyone that acts like the US is a terrible place to live is just a sheltered edgelord
Basically. I’ll take this until there’s some other clearly superior option

It's all about having ambition and the mind for it. Unfortunately growing up in a poor environment means you'll usually get subjected to the same problems your parents went through. It's a viscous cycle but it's not impossible to break free. You got a shot here in the US while a poor kid growing up in a third world country has virtually no chance at winning. That's why so many families immigrate to America, so their children can have a chance

a poor american is a rich malaysian, colombian, south african, ukranian...

These guys don't realize that poverty in the US is not the same as poverty in other countries. It's all relative

Used to talk to this Ukrainian dude online and after I told him how much my rent was he always referred to me as a "rich guy" even though I was just a bartender
Obviously not if we have the highest poverty rates of all “developed” nations
Nah, he's saying the poverty here is elevated poverty
U.S. still the greatest country in the world. Think of allllllll the freedoms we have right? Pick one of those freedoms, any of them...
There's one country somewhere in the world who is like "nope. you cant do that here."

bruh salaries in finance/tech are so divorced from the national average, they're in a bubble of their own compared to pre much every other industry
in the field i wanna pursue, 50-60k is a blessed salary. meanwhile these tech mfs are starting out at 100k

its really relative to some degree
but the Purchasing Power of an American Dollar compared to a Colombian Pesos, or even British Pound is not even a comparison
