the two most eye opening books i think most people (particularly americans) can read are the Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevins and Blackshirts & Reds by Michael Parenti. I think everybody implicitly understands to an extent what u wrote in the OP, but reading and understanding the why's is a critical subject that never really gets taught to us and is a genuinely life changing experience.

i think you'd get a lot of mileage out of either and they're really a cheap purchase imo for their content, but if you can find a pdf online thats even better.

Jakartha Method looks like a fun read, just copped it.

really interesting and engaging read plus the guy is just like a journalist so he's not really a politics guy just stumbled across the story of the jakarta method in his time reporting in brazil which gives it a interesting method of story-telling.
