Standing On The Corner - self titled
I love the wonky feel of the instrumentals here a whole lot. The sound of the album is as if the guy sourced all his guitar pedals, drum machines, mic and anything else at a garage sale and half the s*** he bought barely works ā which ironically works for me as a listener.
My biggest issue is that the vocals have such a small presence here and I found myself tuning them out. I was essentially enjoying this as an instrumental album but the few moments my ears did catch the lyrics, I found myself intrigued by what was being said.
Overall, I had a good time. I took my dog for a walk under some nice weather and had the album serve as the soundtrack. It was a swell time.
Iām giving it around a 6-7/10 because my hurdle with the vocals is a pretty huge one for me but I think anyone more accustomed to this style of music could find a classic in this.
Real. Gonna hit you with your rec in a couple of hours

My review for James Blake - S/T![]()
I expected this to be full electronic and no vocals but ended up with a pleasant surprise. Such a mellow and melancholic album. Reminds me of church music but with that signature early 2010s UK electronic sound. Loved the sub bass on "limit to your love". The organ and lyrics on "i never learnt to share" are very personal as well. Also loved the vocal chops on "i mind". Will be adding this to my rotation and can see it growing on me big time.
Limit to your love is one of my favs on there and so is I Mind
I love the chops and like almost Caribbean/ Afro style drums. Idk sometimes itās disappointing to me to see whereās heās at now. I still like the music but the cool detached feel of the first two and a lot of TCIA is so specific and still feels special
This was a pleasant surprise. I didn't realize all those hits came off of 1 album. That's crazy.
Hearing them in the context of the album is interesting as well, intro sound more epic than I remember. And ngl I didn't know fergie made clumsy either. I always thought it was someone else lmfao.
Glamorous is still such a bop. proto-charlie xcx. I feel like she got a lot of inspo from this album, in general.
The deep cuts on here are just as sick as the singles. That bassline on velvet is gas. And Mary jane shoes is so modern. Matter fact this whole album aged like wine. This is pop royalty status. So many artists based careers off these tracks.
Obviously big girls don't cry a classic. Lowkey I forgot fergie was this good. She's been a memory for a while but this took me back to when I was 9, getting my hair braided chillin with my ds in my hands. Especially london bridge, another song I forgot was fergie's. Carries alot of nostalgia for me.
ubiquitously well written and produced 2000 pop
thank you for transporting me to simpler times through some good tunes that I totally casted aside for no good reason
8.5-9/10

itās insane how little this album is brought up because i think it could be mentioned amongst the best pop albums of all time
like you said thereās so many hits
glad you enjoyed

That's what I was thinking, ppl just seemed to forget about fergie. I think she deserves a retrospective cause that's a classic pop album if I ever heard one.
I don't hear it lauded amongst Britney's blackout or the 2020 experience, but this more than deserves to be in the same conversation

Cocteau Twins - Garlands
Extremely underrated debut, considering how much traction the later stuff has gotten
Listened today!
I can see why this an underrated debut, itās a good project but lacks a little bit of that oomph found in their later stuff. I really liked it overall though! Itās cool when you have an artist that you know about their peak stuff already and then you go back to revisit where it started for them and see the foundation of it all.
My favorite tracks are Wax and Wane, Blind Dumb Deaf, Shallow Then Halo, and Grail Overfloweth. Definitely gonna have this album in rotation for a bit, itās an easy listen and the short runtime makes it a breeze to get through
iāll try listen sometime today, iāll been ridiculously busy at work atm

Really fun electronic / pop album. Let me know if you already heard this and I can recommend something else.
First impressions-
Vibe on this reminded me of this very specific tumblr era with alot of like āchillwaveā type of songs kinda like xxyyxx and stuff. Feels fitting I gave you James Blake S/T although they arenāt super similar they arenāt very far off of projects either. It was a very slow and plotting project at times which made it feel a bit samey as ambient stuff can at times but it was interesting and Iām curious to see how the songs I saved hold up in rotation
Saved songs: Poison Arrow, Eva, Reverie and Blue Butterfly
