I'm talking bout in terms of "artistry" if u get what I mean, like creativity, nas is a goat and he has a handle of creative songs like one mic, book of rhymes, rewind, power, but a lot of his song he's just rhyming which is an art itself
    But jay a lil different

Like act 1 and act 2 loosies are example of this

And jay has all of act 1, better in tune that easily stand up to one mic

And jay has a lot of music out that can easily be find I have a bout 132 songs of his

Tbh I think that Act 2 wasn't gonna be the masterpiece everyone was expecting, I might be wrong but this just my impression based on all the leaks. I think that Stillmatic would've been better than that album, and that's like Nas's 4th best album.

I brought up One Mic bc that's a song with a completely different type of energy, that makes the crowd wild tf out live. When you go through Jay's discog, he mostly maintains the same energy. I just don't think he's as versatile as Nas (but maybe that new album will prove me wrong).

And tbh Jay does have a tendency to fill up songs with lazy lyrical miracle bars like:
"It's the black Caesar, Jesus, he's just
A lyrical monster, boogie man outta the dumpster
Black Pharaoh, Jay Bowie spitting fat arrows
Keep your eye on the sparrow and the fly apparel
    "

And he loves to rely on lazy similes too. He just has a GOAT voice and presence so he makes everything he says sound dope even if it's kinda corny on paper.

There are a lot more reasons for me to consider Nas superior to Jay and I could go on and on. Didn't even think it'd be a controversial opinion. I still love Jay and mean no disrespect. There are indeed a few things that Jay does better than Nas, but I'm talking about the whole package.

I love them both, I prefer illmatic to act 1 but I just felted like a flesh out act 1 in the form of act 2 would of been amazing and definitely better than stillmatic, I mean I love better in tune more than. Anything off of stillmatic, great project tho,

And u right jay does do that sometimes but I guess I notice it more in nas cause he has a larger discography

But jay also wrote this verse kanyetothe.com/forum/index.php?topic=2182073.0

It's frustratin' when you just can't express yourself
And it's hard to trust enough to undress yourself
To stand exposed and naked, in a world full of hatred
Where the sick thoughts of mankind control all the sacred
I pause, take a step back, record all the setbacks
Fast forward towards the stars and the jetpack
My feet might fail me, my heart might ail me
The synagogues of Satan might accuse or jail me
Strip, crown, nail me, brimstone hail me
They might defeat the flesh but they could never ever kill me
They might can feel the music but could never ever feel me
To the lawyers, to the sheriffs, to the judges
To the debt holders and the law makers
F*** you, sue me, bill me
That name on that birth certificate, that ain't the real me
    The lies can't conceal me
The sun rise and the moon tides and the sky's gon' reveal me
My brain pours water out my tear ducts to heal me
    My Lord's too beneficent
The message grab a hold to every ear it get whispered in
The waters in the bayous of New Orleans still glistenin'
The universe is listenin', be careful what you say in it
My grandma told me every bed a nigga make, he lay in it
The church you go to pray in it, the work is on the outside
Staring out the windows is for love songs and house flies

he does have a bunch of filler but it still sounds dope like you said (plus its way better than forcing multis for the sake of it).

but jays vulnerability and personal lyrics are what make a lot of people a fan of his.
