oh the rewatch is so much heavier of a watch. i cried so much more. the rewatch has none of the innocence the first watch has. it's like the adult lens of the film

what's set up as a generic father daughter take a trip and both learn lessons from each other plot turns into something uniquely somber and poignant

my takeaway at the end was the difficulty of parenting, especially at a young age when dealing with mental health struggles. something that Sophie was conscious yet forgiving of as a child then when she gets to her dad's age during that trip she can better empathize with his struggles, especially as a new mom

lotta other themes were done really well too. great score and performances by the two leads

feel like the most emotionally powerful films are the ones that don't go for the low hanging fruit to tug at your heartstrings, and Aftersun was understated while moving

definitely in my top 10 of last year

I’m intrigued by the posts itt saying the takeaway can change on rewatch, I definitely plan on doing another but I feel like I got damn near most of it on first watch. At first I felt although it was a strong movie and I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters, I had hoped it’d be alittle more relatable but as I continued I just felt more and more close to the main character. There’s alot of beautiful shots that I’m gonna be thinking about for a while, and the final act blew me away. Incredible how much was done in what felt like 10 mins of the film. definitely felt like cheating tho cause I’ve cried many times listening to Under Pressure, used to be a song I’d listen to a lot in my dark moments
