My concern is that no one else likes the music either

I think this fact is slept on: 99% people don’t like music for the music. They like something else that they identify with on the surface or the social performance of listening to something they think is cool, hip, young, etc.

Rocky has objectively accomplished less than any other rapper in history. It’s not a subjective discussion. As far as music and resume, he’s a joke, and has no leg to stand on.

Where’s B.o.B. Today? Where’s wiz Khalifa even? These were peers of Rocky who were kicked out of rap for not having classic debuts

If they were as hot as Rocky, they would still be huge with zoomers today. And that’s just crazy to realize. To see someone who never accomplished anything beyond the datpiff era still be huge and coasting off looks and a Tyler the creator friendship is actually insane

I think that’s true to some extent but not the 99% you’re theorizing. I think the majority of people are listening to the music they listen to because they enjoy the vocals, rhythms, melodies, percussion. Sure there are some brain dead Tik tok kids who might only listen to music for aesthetic I don’t think that’s the majority of people. And it’s definitely not that crowd who is listening to and enjoying this album that’s for sure

Sabrina carpenter saying “Mr pretty flacko sir” on SNL in 2026 is literally the same as if she said “omg Das Racist you’re such a great rap group, congrats on the Best New Music!”

Like it makes zero sense. This is an artist who hasn’t had a relevant song in FIFTEEN YEARS. Imagine if Lil B was as hot as Rocky? He would probably be president

Nah. I do respect the thoughtful reply but it’s not a majority that listen to music for musical reasons. Even most people who think they are actual music fans, are listening for social reasons

There’s real ones out there. But I do think that Rocky is an artist who attracts people who care more about aesthetic, social standing, and visual appeal than music. I mean, the fact is the guy just isn’t a very accomplished musical artist, and is more known for his relationships, fashion, and gorgeous face than anything he’s done musically

He has released less music than almost any other musician in the last 15 years. But yet, somehow he still is able to be a hugely popular artist with gen z because he’s hot and the punk aesthetic is in right now

S***s corny. Rocky makes Travis Scott look deep. Probably the most shallow MC ever, in addition to being the hottest

Yeah maybe there are a lot of Rocky fans like that that’s true especially maybe the younger ones. And I get you don’t like his music but his approach to hip hop did genuinely excite a lot of people on a musical level

Another good reply respect. You right I remember the moment when Rocky hit and the “wavy” movement was crazy to hear. but those new fans boosting him to an undeserved level is what bothers me more than anything about my personal enjoyment of the music. I think he has dope beat selection and direction mostly, I don’t think he’s the best mc but his flow is ok

I just don’t think it’s right that he’s on SNL being presented as a hip new artist that the kids like while wale and big krit and Charles Hamilton and b.ob are collecting dust with better catalogs

Nah lol I don’t take that “sir” as being like that

I took him being on that podcast skit as an implication that he is Carti/travis adjacent in terms of youth impact. And that is kind of the reality. For some weird reason (his looks and friendship with Tyler) the youth has really grabbed onto him and embraced him

Yes lol especially compared to Rocky. And there’s at least 50 other artists from the blog era I could name that deserve to be on SNL today over Rocky. Rocky has one mixtape and zero albums. None of his peers or people who made it this far can say that. Everyone has at least album. 15 years in and he doesn’t have one. Ask his fans and they’ll tell you: go to datpiff. That’s the only way you’re gonna get quality Rocky music, even his most dedicated fan will point you there. He still doesn’t have that album and imo he should be shamed for that. People hate on Raury because his debut flopped but Rocky flopped the same way it’s just ok because he’s so attractive. I always liked how Raury looked in the fedora too tho but no one wanted to admit that at the time.

Are we talking about how much money they make or their mainstream appeal to be on SNL, because that's all "deserving to be on SNL" is, it's a marketing and advertising gig

Besides Charles Hamilton (who I've not really seen around doing much) I assume the other three are doing pretty well in their own way financially, not as well as Rocky but like you said he's known for more than making music at this point for better or worse

    That’s my point

I think it is for worse

It’s not about if they’re doing well financially

Rocky getting these looks is straight up disrespect to actual musicians and MCs of his time

He’s not an artist he’s not an MC. He’s a model that Yams picked good beats for. End of story. Dude is a bimbo and his shallow music speaks that very clearly

I wouldn’t have a problem with a bimbo MC existing if he wasn’t put on this pedestal that he’s an artsy dude

Rocky is actually what nerds act like Drake is

Jock ass nerds and nerd ass jocks are lame to me and Rocky is the epitome of that. A dumb ass jock tryna be a nerd

he was one of the only rappers from his era who would willingly do off the top freestyles anytime he did radio shows bro loved freestyling on those shows
