You're exaggerating a bit lol. It's a fascinating concept that never really had an avenue to be explored properly in film/tv up until the past few years. Mediums like comics (where most of these projects are sourced/inspired from) got chances to play with these theories constantly for 60+ years now. It's just finally entering a space that's been decades late

I get why you view it as some cheap trend but i think you'll find over the next decade it's here to stay and will only be expanded upon as ideas get bigger. These aren't really projects just doing it because the last did it, they took years to develop and some even foreshadowed what they'd be doing years ago in prior films

That being said tho, what Daniels pulled off here was an original story using an entirely unique rendition of a well-explored concept and that's difficult to do let alone to the level of acclaim they got
