when I watch the scene with the hot dog fingers and the butt plugs, I just think its stupid and corny. Trying way too hard to be funny

I don't disagree with you with corny to some degree . In many interviews they have said made it over the top to be able to have levity or think about how they would have discussions with their parents . Again they made their movies about if their moms were in the Matrix. Do I think it needed that comedy level ? No not really nor did it really work for me comically. But I get why they tried. I would have rather they refocus the movie on taxes, debt be it college or medical and loop back to even with all that debt she started with and divorce love was in the time they have with each other.

I would have cut or swapped the hot dog fingers, butt plug and racoonie with something else. But I get why its there. Would have went more anime or played with different things besides for "the f*** of it" I have said that it countless post and said the third act got hit for that reason or part on rewatch where I really felt it.

Many of us have said that continuously from the beginning whether we enjoyed it or not

Is timelessness a subjective thing really or more of a cultural consensus thing? It sounds like you’re using ā€œtimelessā€ interchangeably with ā€œI thoroughly enjoy thisā€

That is fair . I mean I asked for personal picks, personal classics cause I think people get too caught up with awards and what others enjoy.

timeless for you. isn't I thoroughly I enjoy this simply. Its I can watch this in many years and enjoy this. I didn't even say this is timeless for me I don't know yet. Timeless for one person could be a poorly reviewed movie. I mean like 5-10 years a movie you still love regardless of everything be that poor reviews, under performing box office, calls of overrated or whatever it may be. Similar to Personal Classic.

    Example :

    Cloud Atlas
    Holy Mountain
    Paprika, Perfect Blue
    Spirited Away

the list goes on timeless to me. I couldn't tell you their reviews off the top, award wins, people aren't necessarily talking about them in day to day conversation.

But they are timeless to me because of the first time I watched I was an experience for one reason or the other in many ways . I appreciate watching them every so often

I still need to watch Paprika I’ve had that downloaded for a long time but haven’t seen it

I’m not an anime person but that intrigues me

Princess Mononoke is my fav anime.

Princess Mononoke is my fav anime.

Satoshi Kon is one where I watched one then kind of marathoned everything he created. Millenium Actress, Paprika, Perfect Blue all greatness. They are serious stories that just happen to be animated. Even for people that aren't necessarily anime people

Perfect Blue was inspiration for Black Swan
Paprika inspired many scenes in Inception

Millennium Actress I mentioned here for a reason too lol. Some of my favorite live action movies are inspired by anime in some way shape or form. S*** some of fave parts of Man of Steel fights were where it felt most Dragon Ball Z. Blending the level of surreal wonder. Without going overly anime is an art.

I asked the question because I wanted to get an idea of what y'all liked so its interesting. I did enjoy Barbarian. Part of the ending was a little over the top silly but overall it worked enjoyable horror I watched at home with headphones

Trying to think of what I may enjoy this year

Beau was Afraid is my first I am seeing I know that

jus bc something is original doesn't mean I like it or its good technically...

Oh I agree with what you saying. Original doesn't mean something is good, good reviews don't determine that , how serious it takes itself doesnt either.

Original a real loaded term because as we said based on many people definitions nothing is original. I do like New IPs so yes I liked Barbarian being new IP and its not like before barbarian dropped they like "we doing 3 movies" they were chill with going in doing a one off. Malignant was a lil too silly but Barbarian was just right. I only mention Malignant cause year before it had the discussion going

I wouldn't compare both movies but I get what you mean of getting more enjoyment out of one than the other and your enjoyment is all that really matters not oscars, reviews, etc

Lol I ask a perspective question of what movie is timeless to you and y’all make it well this isn’t . I’m asking your timeless movie your opinion only . Saving private Ryan was a good one but I’m asking personal preference overall not society or other’s opinion.

Example for me holy mountain timeless is it to others ? F*** no who cares

Cloud Atlas Imax first watch was something special those transitions in IMAX, the music, not knowing the plot or giving a f*** about the hate

But yeah I get not liking it overall. When I do think of dimensional stories about love Cloud Atlas has to come to mind. Speed Racer I watched at home and enjoyed definitely got some classic timeless dna to it. Cloud Atlas didn't execute everything perfectly at all but an independently funded movie by wachowskis starring tom hanks, hugo weaving and halle berry with the author cosigning it was dope. Its rare I like a movie so much it leads to me reading the book so I had to mention it

You a real one lol. Can't believe its instantly been more than a decade since it. Cloud Atlas just a good example cause it came before MCU multiverse, spiderverse, rick and morty and this. In fact Rick and Morty has made fun of it before lol. I wish I could see Cloud Atlas in theaters again.

Does have a balance of action, silliness, sadness, love , optimism, pessimism and mental health even if again not everything lands. Ensemble cast that blends . I mainly like surreal or odd like movies and tv shows. The Wire being the exception to the rule. When it comes to reality I like documentaries. Most things focused on realism in tv and film tend to not interest me personally
