this specific movie deserves better

I think it’s a bit of both but more so the latter. Superman is probably the most quintessentially American superhero that exists, and yet even here there has been so much discussion about his waning popularity over the decades and the generation gap that this movie is going to have to go up against. If that’s the case here, then it’s an exponentially tougher sell overseas.

Also, when the first RT scores were coming in, I was reading the review summaries and the overwhelming majority of rotten reviews were coming from other countries. If I’m not mistaken, the two biggest papers in the UK gave it a negative review. I don’t know if it still skews so much in that direction, but it’s entirely possible that on top of everything else, other countries just don’t like this specific movie as much.
