didn’t mean to say that it was “panned” per say, just that it represented a pretty steep decline in Ye’s sales lol
Yeah that’s fair but it did still have a huge hit single and I think part of that is Graduation was promoted for like a year before it dropped, and 808s promo probably started a month before it dropped. It was somewhat controversial but it still did pretty well, especially the singles
i didn't truly appreciate this album until I finally heard it with some good headphones .
808s is quite possibly the most influential album of the 21st century.

facts! that was epic and he was singing in f***ing auto-tune over tribal drums
too ahead of his time for his own good lmao
@Goo How do you feel about it? 10+ years later
While I've concluded that this is a perfect album (or extremely close to it) many years ago I don't revisit it much. I fluctuate between listening to nothing but this album to not listening to it at all.

this was also the album that showed me how important drums are to music. how powerful and immersive the music can become when the drums are done right.

Any particular reason why you don't return to it much these days? The depressing subject matter?
welcome to heartbreak...
Also the first album that I remember having leaks. "Robocop' with the mix that made it sound more robotic and when Paranoid was called "Anyway".

It's a very deep album, can't just vibe to it mindlessly. Would feel disrespectful.
