There’s many factors playing all at once that got us where we are today. To blame it all on one thing, especially rappers who were pushing the envelope, is brain dead.
Some factors are streaming era, politics, social media, fashion, generational divides, the fact it’s an aging genre….
streamed kenny mason over a thousand times this year so far. he’s really one of them ones man, niggas need to tap in. nigga genre blends and really raps his ass off. songwriting ability is crazy too

A music listener?

I don’t think @OP is saying that, even the non-trap s*** been kinda mid overall this decade
How many MAINSTREAM rap classics do we really have in the 2020s? Emphasis on mainstream, yes I know there is always great stuff in the underground, nobody is denying that

Gnx will go down as a classic. WLR and My Turn probably. Maybe Donda but thats already stretching it

21:00 Drake stans thought this concept was deep too
It doesn’t even line up if you look at the tracklist.

feels like classic was already subjective but its becoming increasingly more subjective because its used so loosely now

!https://youtu.be/IcUVgyPAiB8?si=le_xDV3e4mG58wbQI’ll never forget when Goretex was arguing with me that Views was a legit concept album
It was an ATTEMPT at a concept that got abandoned halfway through the tracklist

!https://youtu.be/IcUVgyPAiB8?si=le_xDV3e4mG58wbQI never thought it was deep. I thought it was fresh. Leading up to views, drake had generally made music that really fit the vibe of driving around late at night.
Of course he had a few of his vibey hits like HOWGH but for the most part his music kinda had a dark vibe to it. As a fan, I was glad he went this direction. Especially after the beef with Meek.

Gnx is not that great man

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who realized this.
All you gotta do is categorize each song as either winter or summer. you’ll see that the album doesn’t follow that concept (which is already shallow level in the first place)
