this doesn’t even make any sense at all
I’m not trying to be the next Bob Marley nigga, his music just means a lot to me when I listen but I’m not trying to personally make that for myself or emulate/sample the sounds wtf
I rap lmao, and I don’t enjoy rapping on reggae sounds. it’s real simple.
JID doesn’t like listening to artists that sound like him, does he all of a sudden not like his music?
His music can still mean something to you no doubt but clearly that’s not where you’re drawing inspiration from
Artists are creatively fueled by other artists. Your sound is an amalgamation of things you’ve heard
I’m an artist myself. I can tell you my favorites and how their sound creatively fuels me. I cannot fathom saying “this is my absolute favorite, most listened artist of all time but I take zero influence from them” lmao
Can’t blame Kanye and Kendrick for dropping some of the best albums of all time. They shouldn’t have to lower their standards because everyone else did. You gotta blame the lazy ass artists who don’t even wanna try.

YOU can’t fathom that
stop trying to box ART into only YOUR point of view
as an artist, you seem elitist.
have a blessed day. I explained to you in detail why that’s not the case and you can’t accept my reality. talking to a wall lol.
Kendrick at no point has been anywhere close to Kanye in his prime, popularity wise. Plus his hit records are nowhere close to Kanye's hit records. But thats not a bad thing--Kanye's hits are in the top top tier. Only Pac, Dre and BIG can f*** with him in that category
wrong, he reached a peak similar to kanye
Eh not really?
50 Cent would say some of his favorite artists were Rick James, Marvin Gaye, and Prince. Never heard a 50 Cent song that sounds like anything they've made. Maybe a sample? But that'd be it.
You don't have to make the same music as your favorite artists. Sure you'd expect to hear some of their influence in the music. But it's not always guaranteed.
Again, Liking or appreciating an artist is different than saying “this person is my favorite and a huge influence”
I also don’t gaf what 50 would say lmao
Cause if he actually said those were his favorites oat he’s either lying or don’t really care about his own music
^this nigga probably be going crazy when Tyler describes the 8th D chord of track 8 on his favorite album from 1986 by Stevie Wonder
goddamn. annoying af lmao. if you ain’t doing that nerd s*** and using it in your music ya’ll, you not really a fan on your favorite musicians

You’re confusing influence and inspiration
Bob Marley inspired @valentine to make music, but doesn’t seemingly really influence the type of art he makes

Lmao you acting like what I’m saying is crazy or something
What’s crazy is saying “Al Green is my favorite artist of all time and I take a lot of influence from him” but then you only make nettspend type music, You’re lying
I genuinely don’t believe Thug loves 3stacks music
There’s nothing I hate more than a artist saying “I’m a huge fan of this guy, he was a huge influence” yet their music bares zero resemblance
It’s why I used to immediately write off any SoundCloud rapper saying Marilyn Manson or whatever is a huge influence. S*** is just lies lol
Then when you point this out mfs will come at you saying “that’s their word you don’t know what they were influenced by” as if we don’t have ears and music isn’t auditory
this doesn’t even make any sense at all

If you’re a musician and Bob Marley is your favorite artist of all time yet nothing you do creatively is anywhere close to anything he did then he’s not your favorite artist
this is not true
u could have the biggest inspirations to ur music not even be ppl in ur top 10 favs ur art is an amalgamation of your entire taste
You’re confusing influence and inspiration
Bob Marley inspired @valentine to make music, but doesn’t seemingly really influence the type of art he makes
I never even stated what influences the art that I make
Bob Marley smoked weed like a chimney, guess what, so do I and I rap about it
now is that nigga my influence cause we both smoke weed a lot? goddamn, this whole conversation was dumb the moment he tried to box in art to his point of view
Never trust someone who likes yeezus
I get how much people love GKMC but it absolutely cannot be listed in the same tier of TPAB and MBDTF
Yeezus yes but not the other 2
GKMC is better than both
mans on ktt think the entire world rotates around the most sucked off online albums
twin tpab not even top 10 most influential of that period
Drake said the album was supposed to represent the changing of seasons. From winter to summer back to winter or some bullshit
That is the most "uhhhh.....uhhhhh......" answer I've ever heard
^this nigga probably be going crazy when Tyler describes the 8th D chord of track 8 on his favorite album from 1986 by Stevie Wonder
goddamn. annoying af lmao. if you ain’t doing that nerd s*** and using it in your music ya’ll, you not really a fan on your favorite musicians
An artist who actually makes music that resembles the people who influenced him talking about what he specifically likes about their music
Crazy
That is the most "uhhhh.....uhhhhh......" answer I've ever heard
Explain what you mean
Ngl this isn’t true at all lol
Anything that’s off the beaten path soundwise gets dismissed as “hoe scaring” music or white people s***, has nothing to do with who it’s surrounded by
Only time experimental s*** gets gradually accepted is when a nigga that is “cool” does it and people feel secure enough to fw it
Whats funny to me is we have hit a point where it's white people deciding which black art is "white people music" s*** is disgusting
Explain what you mean
It sounds like Drake had to go in front of the class and explain his work, and he said its uhhhhhhh like the seasons!
It sounds like Drake had to go in front of the class and explain his work, and he said its uhhhhhhh like the seasons!
Not gonna make a stance on who’s right or wrong here but everyone else is going off what’s logical and ideal while notbrock is going off how the human brain actually works. If I’m claiming someone is my all time favorite AND they’re an influence on me, I’m realistically gonna sound like them. If I don’t sound like them after claiming both of those things at once I’m realistically being full of s***
