thing is it was never "his" sound lol.
Probably not, however he was making it popular around the time. Whether you like it or not the nigga was becoming one of the go to guys for the hip-hop/house fusion s***.
Could people have gone to someone like Cakes da Killa back then? Absolutely. I feel like people wanted to really love Azealia Banks but...well I mean we know what's up with Azealia Banks lol but Goldlink was there was getting the Soulection backing, working with known and popular electronic and dance music producers like Jordan Rakei, Tom Misch, Joe Kay, and Brasstracks. And of course getting the Rick Rubin co-sign and exec production look.
Goldlink ain't invent the sound, but he was clearly being propped as the go-to artist for the sound. To deny that is lying to yourself.

the sound was already somewhat popular and the truth is goldlink didn't take it anywhere it wasn't already. he basically ditched the sound on the next album to get his biggest hit lol. he was being propped as that guy for that sound but the truth is he just wasn't. The sound was always there and anyone paying attention to music knew about it. Goldlink shouldn't act like a gatekeeper
To this day I'm still positive Goldlink's issue wasn't necessarily Mac biting him. It was more that Mac made an album inspired by his sound after being close with him and bringing him on tour, and not even reaching out to have him help on the project. Ion know man. That's a pretty valid reason to be upset with a friend in music over.
Really the only thing Goldlink did wrong was waiting until Mac was dead to say anything. He wasn't wrong for feeling how he did and neither was the message. The timing of the message however was the only thing that was wrong

Who were the rap artists other than Goldlink and the two I mentioned who were popping with that sound?
Like he really explained this a bunch of times before lmao people just kept rushing to misconstrue what he was talking about or put words in his mouth. Anderson Paak went on a spastic rant and completely misunderstood what the nigga even said
When did he call Mac out? Was it while he was still living or after he had passed?
Its probably genuine but as someone who was a fan of goldlink when god complex first dropped he just kind of a b****. he just comes off super pretentious and doesn't have the talent to back it up. always got solid production and features but he himself is just kinda lack luster. he can ride a beat these days but thats about it.
He opened for Tyler during Igor and legit played MAAD City to hype the crowd while on stage then turned it off right as Kendrick was about to start rapping and went back to his mid
He really fell off after dissing mac
the last project he put out is probably my fav from him
Whether it should be let go or not entirely left aside
I love when people with parasocial relationships to a celebrity try and dictate another person actual relationship with a celebrity. Like drama aside goldlink actually knew Mac.
It’s like when people clown Jayson Tatum for invoking Kobe’s name.

After
Goldlink is f***ing trash and we will never forgive him for what he said
who the f*** is we

I always say nothing was the same once people realized Goldie literally has one flow
So much to not forgive gold for. Mainly ruining kaytranada’s best beat tryna be earl
what i don’t understand is that do you people want him to say rest in piss? if he says i miss you he’s wrong but he says he stole off him he’s wrong. i don’t have a dog in this fight both make/made bad music but let it go

Bringing this up on a IG post first thing after a man dies is foul. Main character syndrome s***
