I think when it comes to joining a community that depends on a belief in an absurd premise, if you actually listen to reason and leave, you're gonna look like a huge sucker and have to admit that, plus there's the social cost of losing all your friends who believe in it with you too

I think in the online age where each bespoke ideology fosters its own community, this is also a reason why people get further polarised and entrenched in their beliefs, there's too much to lose from changing your mind

Many flat earthers tend to be religious, but neither the Bible nor the Quran explicitly say the earth is flat or round.

I believe ufo is implying that there is no point in attempting to ascribe logic and reason to someone whose fundamental values consist of not questioning things. They bought into a conspiracy and will buy into many more, but they will not conduct extensive research beyond what supports their theory.

It's the same with religion; there are scientific errors and extraordinary feats depicted on earth rather than in God's kingdom, and we see none of it, and if we question it, our perceived faith dwindles, so they don't, believing that's the Devil getting to them.

In other words, there's no point to this thread. People will be people, and when we're long gone the same s*** will happen. It's been like this for generations.
