The signs has been there since early 2020s but I was still in denial.
We should’ve known something was up when several major rappers started to sell their catalogs. They knew what was to come. The Drake/Kendrick beef was pretty much the grand finale.
I mean think about it.. there’s not one rapper now currently in their prime. Most rappers I can think of best work is behind them and newer rappers still haven’t found a way to navigate this new metaverse to make an undisputed classic.
Now I see these rappers starting to stream and podcast it’s like they’re looking back and reminiscing on the glory days. Almost like the show’s over now we can sit and have a discussion from the inside’s perspective
Anyway rant over, what yall think? 1973-2023 with 1993-2017ish being the absolute pinnacle
Where would this site be without its weekly rap is dead thread?
Hate to say it but OP is right.
Hip Hop is the new Rock N Roll.
This conversation is more dead than rap will ever be
October's Own is the label, seven-figure deal was a fable
Eight-figure bought out the neighbors, nine figures turnin' the tables
You p**** boy better be ready and able, I'm comin'
Yg album tonight
Correct
Nothing is replacing it so how could it have come to an end? Unless you mean the new pseudo alt rock / rap fusion that the younger gen been doing
bully deluxe tonight
1993-2017 being the pinnacle
Nigga who is you
Thread would’ve went platinum in 2019/2020 with a Davidp feat
Yup but it’s actually dead now so there’s not anything to argue
Hip Hop will be fine.
You should try to listen to more artists. Not everything revolves around Drake or Kendrick
This is about mainstream hip hop and its commercial run
For a good second I thought you was just facing the fact that 50 cent rap career is over
It's gettin there tbh. There about 7 niggas who can do 100k+ first week and everyone else is fighting for their lives.
Rap peaked with Soulja boy
this but unironically
