The sad truth is that prescribing medication is more of an art than a science and requires a lot of luck. People end up wasting months of their lives on meds that don't work with their brain chemistry and you really can't blame them for not sticking it out until they find one that helps.
It's like 25% medical knowledge and 75% persistence. I was one of the lucky ones that had a decent time on lexapro from the start but once it stopped working after 18 months I wasn't eager to get back on the carousel and sought out my own coping mechanisms.

My sister was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Ye acts exactly the same as her when they have an episode without taking meds.

These are facts and there’s zero incentive on the medical side of things to help you ever wean down or off once you’re on.
I’ve personally stuck with Zoloft albeit at a number of different doses along with consistent therapy when I can afford it and had great results, but as El Topo was saying it’s not at all one size fits all. I honestly feel like the therapy has been more effective than the stabilizer, but at the same time it’s hard to tell how much of the therapy would’ve stuck had I not been on meds while doing it

I agree, the wild thing about bipolar disorder is that during an episode it ramps all your core ideas & beliefs to a thousand. my sister & Ye have similar beliefs it seems so the God & politics talk becomes none stop. For me, some of Ye’s dialogue has become uncomfortably familiar

I mean I wouldn't say it's just luck, medical knowledge has a lot to do with it, but you're right in that there's not a one size fits all approach to medication in mental health, especially for depression
But for patients with bipolar disorder it is almost always a good idea to be on some type of medication for their own mental welbeing
