ANTITracks don’t flow well at all, meaning the order but also the songs themselves when they switch up.
Ty feels like he’s doing whatever most of the time
Ye is in direct clash with everything around him in at least a few songs, nails on chalkboard vibes
He doesn’t completely stink it up but there’s definitely shades of 2020 forgot how to rap Ye on here (but he does well on at least half of the album)
Features feel useless and phoned in (with obvious few exceptions)
There’s a really good stretch from Hoodrat to Burn (but the placement of Burn is baffling) and a few other interesting songs but this is probably my least enthused first listen ever for a Ye project (not counting Donda Deluxe and unfinished versions of things)
I agree that the track sequencing is kinda poor but ever since Ye has been doing these Listening Parties it's always just 'who knows?' I wish Ye would just release something like a traditional ALBUM but he's always on some byproduct new s*** and it sounds cynical I think he can sucker fans more this way.
Ty does seem sorta just 'there' but he's got a good voice and I'd rather have him be there than Kanye doing the Alt R&B choruses
Also think Ye isn't rapping his ass off but the funny kitsch lines that only come from him are back and while it's objectively no Black Thought I am instantly reminded of Bleached A******s and eating Asian p**** with sweet and sour sauce. Dude has never had a good pengame but he's being GENUINE even if that's more depraved than his christian version we were familiar with for a while
Features are OK. Freddie had a legitimately fantastic verse but yeah I'm not sitting here feeling that they're making the tracks that much better but they're serviceable. I actually might not be the best to give this take cause I never really went crazy over rap features; It could just be Ye and I'd be fine w/ it
