it's crude but i see value in discussing it - kanye music has been so integral to why i love music at all
i honestly don't know if i'd be ready to abandon the music entirely if he gets exposed. vultures already sounds like a snapshot of his worst habits
would you still listen to him? how do you feel about the whole 'separate art from artist' idea

Absolutely not, in 21st century terms it's massive public figure artists like Ye that have defined a new reason of why "seperate art from artist" doesn't work (cause I think it never was the case anyway)
there is absolutely zero separation between all the antics (and potential abuse) he does and the music or shoes or whatever he releases, his rants on Twitter or appearances on Alex Jones are as much Ye the artist as a song or shoe is, they pull from the same blend of references, they have the same purpose and goal in Ye's mind, and you can't hear about one without the other unless you're completely disconnected from the internet, in which case you wouldn't know he's releasing an album anyway
This is a much bigger point than just about people who commit abuse, and this culture actually has helped Ye create the Cult of personality he's cultivated that's made him so successful and revered

fully agree, in his case everything he raps or sings about is inextricably linked to his public persona, personal life and so on
i used to draw a really hard line on this & stop listening to artists outright if they did bad s***. but if they're talented, if ye's music is carved into a lot of good memories of mine, i feel like i'm barring myself from enjoying it for what it's worth
i feel like at least until now, up to vultures 1&2 i've been able to acknowledge the stupid things he says & does, acknowledge he's a bad person and listen afterward with an open mind.
plenty artists people consciously do this for already - namely carti. i think that's different than 'separating the art,' i don't know what i'd call it

I mean this is just a gross oversimplification based on your assumptions of how Ye creates his music and how people consume it and music in general. He quite literally said he loves Hitler and then not even 2 years later got a billboard #1 for the first time in over a decade and is selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide
If any of what you’ve said is true, his personal actions would have irreparably damaged his success, but his music, especially his back catalogue is thriving probably more than ever. The same goes for any number of artists who consistently show themselves to be awful people yet are still wildly popular like Carti, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown or anyone else who fits that mold lol

I think as well something that people seem to just bypass is that Ye doesn't lie in his lyrics, so many of his songs are about him being a flawed person, songs like Ghost Town or Jail or Devil In A New Dress or F*** Flowers have (varying levels of) nuance which means it doesn't come across totally irreverent
it's when he starts talking about his kids birthday parties or songs like Come To Life or Lord I Need You that come across so fake and phoney to me cause that's not who he's shown us he is, and goes against who he tells us he is
if you're a flawed person and make supervillain a****** anthems, it's like I wish you would stop but at least it makes you look like a real person as opposed to artists like Carti or R Kelly or whoever that are irreverent in how they make art

What do you think my point was here, because I agree with what you have said except I take it a step further and say his success and the success of other flawed people is not in spite of the bad things they do but is instead an indictment on modern pop culture

My original point was more about what they make (as I expanded on in the post after yours) as opposed to just being about charts and first week sales, because that's no metric of anything actually important to me

Wait til it reaches a resolution we really don’t need your what if here in the bully thread

yeah thats sensible, but i think its natural that discussions about an artist's work and their actions/lawsuits will have overlap

We don’t need to yet
Especially given the specific case it’s possible they were both on Diddy d**** so it’s grey
All we know is how he handled it after when presented with her statement was atrocious
I made it far thread separate so we don’t go into it here m
I pray bully isn’t “ they are trying to bully me with fake accusations me too” type s***
