Ye really struck gold when Rick Rubin put Yeezus together lol almost all of the demos from that era really don't hit like that. Disappointing bc I always thought he was hiding some insane stuff from us with all of the producers he worked with

Tbh except for maybe 2 of the snippets that dropped yesterday I doubt it. My hunch is that ye got reactive and made a hard pivot towards more palatable sounds once he realized yeezus had no “hits” on it.

Its so fascinating to hear all of the leaks from that late 2013-2015 time because i really feel like he was losing it during that time and didn’t know how to piece everything back together creatively. He literally created a new hip hop prototype that virtually no other artist has been able to replicate. I always thought he had more crazy stuff with Gesaffelstein or HudMo that dug deeper into the rabbit hole but that seems less and less likely as the vault continues to clear up.

I feel like you can almost hear it in some of the leaks. Even the mumbles sound less intentional and more anxious, as if ye was instinctively gripping at straws based on what brought him past success.

Getting legacy treatment while also being expected to top your best work while also internalizing that you may be running out of steam has to be incredibly anxiety-inducing.
