most creative pursuits will never generate any money. i'd rather have that encyclopedia knowledge to get really good at something that pays and get to learn creative stuff after i make some money and have free time

Unless you have the time and resources, most of the time as a creative you'll be thinking about all these great ideas you could offer the world but probably end up depressed as most of those ideas just fester and rot away in your mind due to lack of said time and resources

Monetizing creativity to make it your livelihood is one of the greatest challenges I can think of

There are creative engineers that have studied years to be able to communicate that creativity. Any slightly creative person with immediate encyclopedic knowledge on engineering will go much further much faster, creatively and otherwise. Not to mention business knowledge, psychology, and worldly knowledge to go along with it. And that’s just in engineering.

Alternatively, a true creative genius will be able to go the length as well but there are so many other variables in that.
