every 40 year old rapper stopped trying to act like a twenty something mob boss on Instagram and just admitted they spend their free time doing estate planning and watching golf? Seems to me since 2018 the entire genre has been on a run to be the most exhausting high school drama class ever. The only difference is that fans have a psychotic parasocial breakdown over every single tweet like it's a geopolitical event. If this was any other professional art form, people would be begging these billionaires to go to therapy instead of making 38-track deluxe albums about who sat where at a party. Discuss. 🫣📉

Why are we trying to ruin and govern their creative process?
I don’t think anybody is trying to govern their creative process lol. There’s a difference between saying “old rappers should act their age” and noticing that some of them have built these insanely self-serious public personas that make everything feel like a high school power struggle.
And Cole/Kendrick are actually good examples of this. They’re reserved, not stoic. They clearly have personalities, humor, vulnerability, etc. They just don’t need to constantly perform “I’m the most dangerous man in the room” online.
Honestly I think people become more likable when they’re successful enough to stop taking themselves so seriously. You can still make serious art without treating every Instagram interaction like a declaration of war.
what mob bosses are twenty something
the ones pushing 40 lol. that's my point. there's a difference between being reserved and having self control vs constantly performing how dangerous and untouchable you are. if you actually have that much power you don't need to keep reminding everyone of it. that's not stoicism, that's insecurity with a budget
