“No disrespect but not enough people were agreeing with me in the Mac Miller so I had to make a separate thread”
No disrespect and RIP but I’ve truly never understood why people rave over this dude so hard other than the fact that he made a relative massive leap in quality from being outright terrible to decent. Which that type of development is impressive I guess but I feel like it causes people to herald his later output to be more than it is. I think the celebration of white mediocrity in rap plays into this too otherwise people like Jack Harlow would be trashed on here more than they are
Horrible opinion. You disliking his early work is subjective as hell. Kids and BDE are still great mixtapes though they are very juvenile. You can say this for literally any rappers work while in or fresh out of high school from that era. White mediocrity? Bruh nothing about Mac was mediocre. He could sing, he had a great falsetto, he was an amazing producer. His raps are good, he played multiple instruments. There are very few people with that kind of raw talent. You sound like a hater honestly
The only era you could call mid at all was that early 2010s backpack sounding era
Even then you’ve got watching movies, faces, good am, divine feminine (rip divine masculine or whatever disc 2 was gonna be called, also rip pink slime and maclib), and swimming / circles. Pretty crazy discog if you ask me
Plus all of his leaks and loosies are really good too
Nah Mac was that dude way before his death
even Blue Slide Park broke records even tho it’s his weakest project
Everything else can be respected no doubt just for the pure artistry
It wasn’t that he was doing anything that hasn’t been done but it was the fact you can tell he worked to be a master of his craft and was authentic through to all

Didn’t know divine masculine was even a thing

where did mac have great falsetto ? (genuinely asking since his voice always bordered on raspy/breathy type singing, he always sounded tense with his vocals and like he's staying in his talking voice so I'd be surprised he could pull off "great falsettos")
nah, in music, white mediocrity is when an artist is being overhyped/rated for being white in a culturally black genre
op's point is that he didnt make music any better than other artists but mac got more acclaim for it
mac being white in hiphop and the tragic circumstance of his untimely death contributed to how we view him (wether u like his music or not)
in the thread you'll see alot of same sentiment:
"the way he respected hiphop as a white rapper..."
the standards and expectations for him were different and y'all know it
I disagree, I don't remember Mac really getting type of acclaim or hype when was alive (I could be remembering wrong). Atleast not more than his peers which is the whole 09-13 class. Again I could be wrong but I really don't remember people putting him on a pedestal like that, a lot of the s*** he was dropping post Faces and Pre Swimming was getting straight up ignored.

I can’t think of what it was actually called, rumored to be a whole disc with metro if the rumors are true

"pure artistry" and a "master of his craft"
y'all lowkey proving op to be right
people love the story of mac along with the music, the whole "he started out here but made it there, he worked for it and is a white man who respects hiphop" etc. etc.
it's not wrong to admit that there's more to an artist's appeal than their music

I really don’t get what you trying to say here
So because he took his craft seriously I can’t respect it and admire it? but instead have to go talk about other unrelated things to prove a point? Why would I do that?

where does it say u can't praise his music because he worked hard at it ?????

try responding to what I posted (or to the thread's op) instead of making s*** lmao

feel like you reaching for something that isn’t there
All I pointed out were reasons why ppl respected his work
ahh lovely. Mac always had a knack for rapping on unique stuff. Have any MUST have albums/songs I need to hear from Brian?

if not before his passing but after it he def got put on a pedestal

I didn't believe my post was that hard to understand
I didn't believe my post was that hard to understand
it was just a weird response that’s all
I said nothing about his story, instead talked about why ppl respected his music which was a direct response to op
I don’t agree with the narrative that his story was the main reasons why ppl liked him. You can say he managed to make his story accessible through his music but that’s what makes an artist great or highly exceptional

I don't necessarily disagree with that but I contribute that to death hype more so than white mediocrity.
Naw Mac Miller had a lengthy run for his fan base. But jack harlow does get s*** on. He just went viral with what’s poppin and it stayed for so long cuz ppl started greeting their friends by going line for line with the chorus. He never topped Dark Knight from back in 2017
the only “bad” s*** he had was blue slide park IMO
was way too commercial
other than that he was dope
but that was the music he was making during his mixtapes days and his mixtapes were fire "as a kid"
so I don't get it. He had best day ever and KIDS. Blue side park sounds like those mixtapes...

ok lemme explain it
u talked about how great it is to see someone work at his craft and master it
" his pure artistry and he mastered his craft" ( "pure artistry" as opposed to "impure artistry ? lol but let's not even get into that )
so I respond with how people love pointing that out about mac (the story), wether one like the music or not, people love his story and that imo contributes to his overall rating/image
op basically says the same thing about mac improving on his music (and how he doesnt get why he's rated so highly when in his opinion mac wasn't an exceptional talent which is why he attributes some of that overratedness to that story-arc/image mac has)
all Im saying is: we can agree on one thing, his story and perception plays a factor in how people rate him and subsequently his music (wether u like the music or not)
