The problem with debt payments like that is that if you can rationalize debt in one area of life you can probably do it in others. Then all of a sudden you have finance payments on cars, credit cards, technology, furniture, loans, etc etc. Having all those payments is going to divert almost all of your income to those bills and you won’t have anything left over to save and build WEALTH. Having a nice looking car isn’t going to make you wealthy.

I had $22k in credit card debt at one point and that was a b****. When I financed my last car (a 2014 Subaru Outback, nothing special but reliable and gets the job done), I financed it for 60 months but I paid it off in 7. I absolutely despise having debt and payments. Granted I have a fat mortgage now but at least that replaces rent and I am building equity in an appreciating asset that will house myself and my family for many years.

Unless he’s making six figures buying a BMW i8 at 22 would be absolutely moronic. It’s not about buying property right now for him - if he buys that car he won’t be able to buy a house for the next decade, at least. He’d be setting himself up for failure. You should always be planning your life out 5, 10 years at the minimum.

OP should get a car, if he needs one - just one that he can reasonably afford and preferably pay for in cash.

He's 22 years old though. Can he enjoy his life a bit first?

Also could you reread my post where I said "Not this bs becuase this is stupid?" I agree he should not buy this car. Get him a nice beater

honestly I wouldn't even feel comfortable driving a i8 that I financed for 87 weeks. It's not that dope flexing s*** like that when it's obvious you can't actually afford it

You can have fun and live life without spending money like a moron. Budget a certain % of your income to frivolous, miscellaneous items but also budget a decent % for savings. He should 100% be saving for a house at 22 - as should you and everyone else on this forum. With the savings rate of most people you’ll need to save for years before getting a decent down payment, and then traditionally you’ll have a mortgage payment for thirty years after that, unless you can afford the higher payments of a fifteen year mortgage or pay off the mortgage early.

If he starts saving at 25, buys at 30, all of a sudden he has mortgage payments until he’s 60. F*** that!

Let him live a little and eff off a few racks if he wants to. He's young. He can bounce back. You sound like one of them memes talking about

I own a half million dollar home at 25. No other debt. Grossed $120k last year. Is my advice more valuable, or yours?
