Why tf would u adapt tom king mister miracle instead of kirby
Tom King tryna cash them residual checks smh…
I'm interested in Lanterns but my initial excitement for the DCU has been dampened after watching Superman. Gunn hyped it so much with all the "good script first.. then the film" talk that when I actually saw it that narrative didn't match.
I thought the film was all over the place and leaned into a lot of Gunn's worst impulses as a writer/director
Same for CC — I did finish the first season but it felt like nothing more than a rehash of SS/Guardians in many ways
Supergirl trailer was also very middle of the road for me — too many echoes of Guardians in terms of aesthetic

That’s pretty much how I felt
Not the biggest fan of the suicide squad but that one was definitely well made, all the characters got their time to shine, lots of jokes and subplots set up that eventually pay off, script was very tight whereas Superman felt a lot more first drafty
The authority isn’t canceled and booster gold doesn’t have tom king. Don’t think clayface does either.
Tom King has a movie based on his comic, a show based on his comic, and is a writer Lanterns, despite never having written a Lanterns story before. I know WB has been trying to get him involved for several years, but at what point is it overload
This feels like a funneling scheme

So… 3 things lol?
Also Gunn already said supergirl isn’t following the comic super closely. Lanterns is sounding amazing so I don’t get that complaint at all.
Lanterns lindelof writing give him his credit unless tom king more involved
Pretty sure this series is King's pitch. He worked the concept with Gunn and eventually got Mundy on board. Lindelof joined later on to hash out series and co-write pilot with King and Mundy. Not sure how much writing he has after that, but he's co-creator and will obviously aid the series a lot.

Idk that feels like a lot. Can't name many other instances of adaptations from 1 writer especially for a young universe. And that's on top of the first 3 projects being written by the same person. Tbf King is apparently a DCU architect so of course he's doing this.
And sure they'll deviate a bit from the comic, but they clearly want to boost King's book sales and get him checks while they're at it. Some of the deviations (Lobo) are literally inspired by King too.

He the architect ?
He the architect ?
Gunn in Dec 2023:
Tom is an integral part of the DCU, not just WoT. He’s one of the first people I showed the Superman script, asking for notes. He’s included in various ways in numerous other projects, including WoT.

I wonder what those notes were lol

I'm on board and think it'll be a good story, just worried about what they're doing with Lanterns lore. Nothing about rumors and first look has eased that.
Really thought GL Corps could be a huge anchoring franchise for DCU doing cosmic/space stuff and wider event ideas but we're just doing an earth-based show....which i'll have to just live with. Prob still spooked from 2011

I still have hope when if I was mixed on Superman .

Who cares as long as they’re good? Did Tom King do some horrific thing that I should dislike anything his name is attached to?
